Forums - Gaming - Would This Move PS4's/X1's In Japan?

So we basically know Namco is working on the next Tales of game and it was speculated that they would reveal it at TGS, but looks like that didn't happen.  Recently with Tales of Xillia the Tales of series has grew a lot in Japan and is a lot bigger than it was at the start of this gen with Vesperia imo.  So I was wondering since they are probably not too late into development to bump it up to a next gen title why wouldn't Microsoft or Sony fund the game so its exclusive for their next gen platform.  I mean its not like the Tales of games have huge production values so it wouldn't cost them much.  I think we all know Microsoft stands no chance in Japan unless they start buying out Japanese exclusives and what better place to start than the Tales of series?  For Sony, lets be honest with basically all JRPGs coming out for PS3 not many Japanese gamers are gonna be too eager to move to next gen with most of the games they want are for current gen and most next gen games are western games.  I think the PS4 needs a huge Japanese title like a Tales of game to get Japanese gamers to move to next gen.  Anyway what do you guys think, would this make a big difference or no difference and why?

Hey it will do more than popular WRPG's and that for sure.

Tales is still a fairly small series. It would definitely help both in Japan, but I doubt it would really make that much of a difference.

How many units does a typical game in a series need to sell in Japan for it to be a big series for you?

Just off the top of my head didn't Tales of Xillia 2 do about 400k in Japan? That's a respectable number for sure but I don't think it's enough alone to have any large-scale influence on hardware adoption for Sony or MS.

The first Tales of Xillia did 670k though, idk why the second one sold so much worse even though people say its better than the first...Even Tales of Graces and Vesperia sold more, if you count the 360+PS3 versions of Vesperia and the Wii+PS3 versions of Graces.

Did Vesperia save the 360 ?

Xillia was just the right game at the right time. I don't know why it took Namco so long to realize that the PS3 fanbase was a prime target for Tales. Hopefully they won't make that mistake with PS4 and it'll come earlier rather than later.

I don't think Tales of is much of a hardware-mover, though.

Well Namco already said their next Tales of game is gonna be for PS3, so unless Sony funds the game for PS4 it won't happen.

Well, no.  It took almost 5 years from PS3 being launched for it to get an original Tales of title; and 3 years before it got any Tales game, despite there being pretty much yearly releases on other consoles (DS / 360 / Wii / PSP).

I don't think that'll be happening with the franchise again.  But, who knows what'll happen, I guess.
