30 million?? wow and 4 million for the wii, Does the 4 million factor in to graphics like RE4 or would a title like that be a lil more to make?
I just can't fathom 30 million for PS3 games, if that is true that is not good news for PS3

| mrstickball said: As its already been said - many game budgets are already set, and their devs are building the engines for the games. I do believe, however, that for PS3 devs wanting PS3-exclusive games under the assumption are realizing that with such a small user base, it's difficult to make a profit, therefore multi-porting to the 360. The primary issue is this: If I am a dev, what would I rather do: 1. Dev for the 360 or PS3, and port to the other console, only having to modify the code to work on the CPU/GPU, ect to move the game to another console for under $500k USD. 2. Dev for the 360/PS3 and port it to the Wii, which would require quite a bit more work due to having to scale back textures, add in new devkits for the WiiMote (as stated), and pay quite a bit more, maybe $1m. Which is more economically feasable? IMO, its the 360/PS3 route. Despite complaining and general N-fanboyism, the PS3 and 360 are still the lead consoles to dev for. There's a 13m user base on both systems. The 360/PS3 base is staying steady in the US vs. Wii, increasing vs. Wii in Europe, and losing in Japan. Look at Trusty Bell for 360. Will it make money on 360 alone? Probably not. However, adding the PS3 in there, will make the game quite profitable. A good example is Enchant Arm. It sold good on the 360 (not great), had 50k in Japan, and another 150k in the US/Europe or more. Probably around 200k units. Once it got ported to the PS3, it's sold around another 75-100k. Easily worth porting, and taking a game that maybe broke even, to actually make From Software a few bucks. The same can be said for AC4 - it sold 90k on PS3 in Japan, another 25k on 360, and 100k+ on both PS3/360 in the US. There's no way just deving on the Wii would of made the game more profitable. Honestly, it'll take 2 YEARS of the Wii selling as good as it is to even get anywhere near the level that would be required for a major dev to say "lets move our big name franchise to Wii-exclusivity, or make the Wii the lead console". It just won't happen. Has the Wii's succuess garnered more software sales for Nintendo systems than in the past? Absolutely, but still, the 360/PS3 are the lead systems to dev for. |
Completely agree with everything you just said, but on the other hand, will all 3rd parties go multiplatform? That's the big question now and more and more are going for the double release. I prefer if there are exclusives for each console outside of first and second party stuff.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
Will all 3rd party games go exclusive? Its a mixed possibility. Not all 3rd party games will go multi-plat, or will concentrate on timed exclusives moreso than ever. Again, good example is eM for 360/PS3. It *was* a X360-only exclusive. From Software raked in the cash from the 360 version (and for all we know, MS gave them a few hundred grand for the exclusive rights for 2006, as MS desperately needed this game in Japan). It moved all the units it could, then the PS3 version came out to very weak (but still meaningful) sales. We've seen it with AC4, Oblivion, Splinter Cell, Fight Night Rnd3, and many other titles. Some due to the PS3 just coming out, others because the devs are smart. IMO, I envision that maybe 75% of all 3rd party games will either be totally multiplatform (40%), or 360/PS3 exclusive (35%), or will have a special timed release for it. Why won't all 3rd party games go multi? Money. Although multi-plating is obviously profitable, having special relationship(s) with certain developers can garner special benefits. Gears of War is a great example. Epic made it stick to MS, and MS in turned help cover publisher costs and marketing. It saved Epic some cash, and gave MS the much-needed Holiday 2006 title it so craved. Mistwaker is another very prime example. It's NOT an MS studio. It is developing games for the DS. However, for it's 360-only for console games. Why? MS is bankrolling their games (for millions upon millions of dollars) to increase prestige of games. IMO, most 3rd party games that will stay exclusive will do so because Sony or MS will be paying them off for it. Nintendo most likely wont, as they never have (unless they broke the legs of the devs like they used to). The real test will be the major PS2 exclusives. GH2 made the switch, and I am certain Activision is patting themselves on the back for a game that's nearly sold 500k units in a month (for a game that probably cost them $1.5m to port). Im VERY interested in seeing DMC4 sales for the 360, as well as any sort of S-E title to come to the 360. Likewise, Trusty Bell for PS3 should give it a great boost. I assume Namco-Bandai will release the game on PS3 this holiday (maybe in November) to counteract Lost Odyssey. By that time, TB on 360 will of died, and TB on PS3 could easily sell 200k units and help the near-dead system have a merry Christmas.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
