Different paint types? In the second shot the car in the background is shiny, the car in the foreground not. The only way this makes sense is if they have chosen to make the car look this way.

If processing was the issue, you would keep your reflections on the closer cars and dump or dumb them down on objects/cars that are further away.

I think they meant all titles that weren't going to be rendered in native 1080p but let them have the win it's not like forza was meant to be some graphical benchmark.

you mean source for media praising forza 5 visuals. Visit digital foundry, gamersyde, ign, gamespot, 1up to name a few. All say best racer visuals. To hard to post links on phone.
