That's my biggest question.

If it is tied to what is registered with your PSN account, I would be more inclined to make my last few PS3 purchases digitally.

Fingers crossed there will be DRM!

Oh the irony...

Yeah, i bet they will be required to be always online to play these Gaikai games!

That's where the PS4 would be different. Does the X1 offer backwards compatibility?

M$ did say they were working on something similar, but didn't have any real info when asked about it.  I can't find the interview, but it was a couple of months ago.  It's not like this is something that M$ or Sony are the only ones that can offer it.  It's more a matter of the cost for it and how to implement the cost structure to the users.  If M$ has any brains, they will wait for Sony to come up with it's plan and commit to it.  Then they can decide if they can offer it for the same cost.

Yeah. I read somewhere they might offer backwards compatability through the cloud service, which hopefully will be as good or better than Gaikai. I tried Gaikai once for Battlefield and it was actually pretty good. I tried Street Fighter IV on Onlive and it was so laggy I couldn't even fire an hadouken, but that could have had to do with the internet I was using at the time lol.

I just didn't understand where was the irony of PS4 having DRM for Gaikai when it's a service that is just there so the PS4 could have at least a bit of backwards compatability. It's not like we're talking about the physical games themselves.

Ms has been using a service on their servers called Terminal Services for the last 15 + years which wouldn't be that much of a leap for them to move over to a Gaikai type service.

It would not surprise me if they were not working on it.

I'm hoping that the service isnt just relying on servers, would hope that it could become an emulation type service on the console, rather than a streaming service, but I think I am being too hopeful.

From a screen quality point of view, PS1/PS2 games would be fine, but things start to get a bit iffy with current gen games (Ps3/Xbox360).

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Some people just can't get past the hate that there favorite console is getting. Funny and quite pathetic at the same time.

My question is will I be able to put in my PS3 game disc in my PS4 and allow me to play from the cloud. If not im not about to re-buy my games on Gaikai just to play on the PS4.

This would be awesome! I really hope in the future we get something like this...

I still believe sony have plans to stream ps4 games in ps vita tv without ps4. If they can pull it off it will be a game changer. Sony will sell more ps4 games (via gaikai).

i don't think so, this would make the ps4 obsolete. they still want you to buy a 400$ device instead of 100$. Maybe you will be able to stream PS4 games once the PS5 comes out (or doesn't exist anymore), but i bet my ass that it won't be via PS VITA TV, that doesn't generate revenue.

Sony doesn't make much money from console sales.  They make a lot more through game sales.  Because of this, I think it would be beneficial for them to offer PS4 games through the PS Vita TV.  Howeve,r you must remember that the PS Vita TV will run games with a 720p resolution.  So if you want to run PS4 games in 1080p, you will still need a PS4.

Funny how sony used to prioritize japan but now it's america. Too see sony change completely in the next coming generation must mean this will be interesting.

They have sold roughly 25 million PS3s in the US, and 10 million PS3s in Japan.  Obviously, there is more money to be made in the US.  Also, Microsoft is strongest in the US, so if Sony as a business wants to gain marketshare there, they cannot ignore it.

And technically, last time Sony launched first in Japan and NA, with Europe lagging behind.  This time it is Europe and NA, with Japan lagging behind.  So technically the change reflects a stronger interest in Europe (where they have sold 30 million PS3s) over Japan.

@DM235

I wouldn't be so sure about microsoft being the strongest in america for too long seeing as how nobody is safe there, in fact I expect the majority of gamers in america to buy the PS4 instead cause it's $100 cheaper.
