Apparently they go from tadpole to frog/toad inside the mother's back. They probably have a lot higher reproduction success rate since they can emerge more fully developed rather than swimming around like a tadpole.

Yes, because the little ones are tasty. I think they have about the lowest number of eggs laid by a frog. But since most hatch, they don't need to have as many.
It's really just an extra membrane that grows over, and as frogs shed their skin, eventually it's gone. In all fairness if the frogs could talk, I bet they would say human reproduction is disgusting. "Wait, what? The babies come out from where? Eeeeeeewwwww!"
Come to think of it, it kind of is.
