Forums - Gaming - SEGA SAMMY Purchases Atlus (Index Corp) For 14 Billion Yen ($140 Million)

I'm fairly certain it doesn't mean Atlus USA is going anywhere so Atlus games will still be localized. I just hope Sega doesn't have to much control is all.

If true this is a missed opportunity for Nintendo imo.

Though Sega and Nintendo have close relationship. Who knows, this could be good for Nintendo. Idk

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Saw this post on GAF.

"This is a point that really needs to be raised much more than it is currently. In lieu of doing my own research, here's a copypasta from Nirolak about devs that Sega has bought and generally treated well, allowing them to maintain relative independence, continue working on the same sorts of things, and even expanding:

(08:48:50 PM) Nirolak: The Creative Assembly Sega Europe 2005 Total War series, Viking: Battle for Asgard (2008)
(08:48:53 PM) Nirolak: Sports Interactive Sega Europe 2006 Football Manager series
(08:48:54 PM) Nirolak: Three Rings Design Sega America 2011 Spiral Knights
(08:48:56 PM) Nirolak: Hardlight Studio Sega Europe 2012 Sonic Dash, Sonic Jump <- Was going to be handheld, went to mobile, but to be honest I can't blame them
(08:48:57 PM) Nirolak: Relic Entertainment Sega America 2013 Company of Heroes series

(In the case of Creative Assembly, Sega even picked up the Warhammer license for them.)"

It could still turn out OK. You guys know Atlus already releases smartphone stuff and other such things already right?

SMT and Persona will be fine. SMT IV did well in Japan and in the US, and Persona is Atlus' biggest IP, they wouldn't screw around with it.

Well... its not the creative freedom of Atlus that most of us are worried about. Its the localization of their games. Sega's track record is just too worrying.

So I am clinging to hope that Atlus USA will remain at full capacity and used by Sega to localize their games (like what a lot has mentioned here). Until then, I am not getting any positive vibe on this news.

Now all we need is for Nintendo and Sega to merge

Hmm.....why do I have an ominous feeling about the fate of Segatlus?

Good bye localized games.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

I still think it would have been a major coup if Nintendo had purchased them as rumored. But there could be worse outcomes, and while Sega hasn't had a sterling record lately, hopefully they'll handle Atlus properly.

I am actually glad that Sega brought them. I would disgusted if it was EA.
