"Notice is hereby given that SEGA DREAM CORPORATION, which was newly established as a wholly owned subsidiary by SEGA CORPORATION (“SEGA”), a subsidiary of SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS INC. (the “Company”), has concluded a business transfer agreement with Index Corporation (“Index”) for the purpose of revitalization of the business. Under the agreement, SEGA will take over the operations conducted by Index, the bankrupt company that applied to the Tokyo District Court for the commencement of civil rehabilitation proceedings effective from June 27, 2013"
The Company believes that transfer of Index’s operations to SEGA will create synergies, on the grounds that the deal will enable the Company to:
(1) gain access to prominent IPs in the home video game software, through which the Company can expect to achieve steady flows of revenue;
(2) expect further facilitation of revenue growth for the PC Online Game Business and Content Business for Smart Devices operated by SEGA and SEGA Networks Co., Ltd. by exploiting acquired prominent IPs
(3) maximize the value of acquired IPs by effectively deploying them in the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines segment, Amusement Machine Sales and Amusement Center Operations segments.
Outline of the business transfer:
(1) Details of operations to be transferred
The operations conducted by Index including the Digital Game Business (design and development of console games and social games); Contents & Solutions Business (delivery of contents, development of systems, consigned development related to amusement machines, internet advertising, etc.); Amusement Business (development and sales of commercial amusement machines) and related businesses.
(2) Assets and liabilities to be transferred
Tangible and intangible fixed assets as well as intellectual property assets related to the above operations to be transferred. (These include shares of Atlus Holding, Inc., which is the parent company of Index Digital Media, Inc., as well as Tiger Mob Limited, Index Corp (Thailand) Ltd. and Mobi Town Ltd.) In principle, liabilities including interest-bearing debts will not be taken over.
(Note: Index Digital Media Inc is Atlus USA)
I'm relieved a 3rd party got them. I want to catch up on their PSP output at some point and had MS or Nintendo got them, chances are the games could have vanished from PSN overnight.
Yes,because Nintendo is just ooooh so reliable with localizing games. Remember how quickly Nintendo brought Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and Xenoblade over? Wasn't Captain Rainbow awesome? And those Fatal Frame games? Day of Disaster? And don't forget how quickly they gave Earthbound fans what they wanted when they localized Mother 3! Seriously, comments like these crack me up...if anything, Nintendo is worse then SEGA when it comes to localization. Getting Xenoblade out of them was like pulling teeth. We had to rely on other publishers for LS and PT, and a fan translation for Mother 3. We will NEVER get the other gams I listed. And the real kicker? Pretty much all of these games were localized in NoE, and NoA STILL wouldn't bring them over. I can assure you, if SEGA had Mario, Zelda and Metroid, they would have absolutely NO problem bringing them over. |
So you bring up the only black spot on Nintendo´s localization west (operation rainfall), disregard that those games made it over to america (I´m a European, Ididn´t have to wait for the games as long as the US) on the dead Wii (yes the Wii was dead by 2012)
...ignore that Nintendo pushes niche japanese games like Fire Emblem : Awakening and SMT IV (30$ if you register SMT IV and FE:A), has already confirmed that SMT X FE will be published around the world, they handle the Western distribution and localization of Bravely Default !
...and Mother 3 ? Earthbound was a commercial failure, Mother 2 came out in 2006 in Japan on the GBA, we would be looking at a 2007 release for the GBA in the West !!
Calling Nintendo worse than SEGA when it comes to localizations is downright insulting !

Trauma center may work on the Vita, but EO is about making maps and exploring, you need two screens for that. |

I can guarantee you that EO would exist without the DS. It's a first person dungeon crawler and is neither unique or innovative and could have been done on any platform.
Well, on the plus side, at least it wasn't Nintendo or Sony.
So, that's a positive. But SEGA were pretty low down on my list of viable third parties (see: Japanese third parties); behind only Capcom & Square Enix.
In an ideal world I'd have loved Marvelous AQL to buy them, but I suspect they're nowhere near rich enough. GungHo or Konami would've been great; or even Tecmo Koei (but they're probably lacking the funds too).
Ah well. I can only cross my fingers now and hope that Atlus remains a separate entity within SEGA-Sammy and doesn't become another division of SEGA.
Looks like a good time to start learning Japanese.
First I replied, then I read some of the thread.
Fucking cellphone games? FUCK YOU SEGA. FUCK.YOU.
