PS4 and Xbox One to shift 3.1 million units in the UK this Christmas

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales will hit 1.8 million units and 1.3 million units respectively this Christmas period across the UK. That’s the prediction by trade body the Entertainment Retailer’s Association.

The firm has projected that PS4 will outsell Xbox One during the period, and that combined, would generate some £1.2 billion in revenue. The figures come from a poll that surveyed over 2,000 consumers.

However, MCV has added that it is unlikely there will actually be 3.1 billion next-gen consoles to go around this Christmas, due to high demand and dipping stock levels.

The ERA’s director general Kim Bayley said in a statement, “The drama and excitement generated by PS4 and Xbox One look set to produce the sales boost retailers have been crying out for”, and the group added that games will outsell music and film this holiday season.

What do you think?

3m of them being PS4s trolololol

seriously though if this is true it's great for the industry. We need at least one of the next gen home consoles to do well and it looks like they're both going to get off to good starts with WiiU hopefully picking up some steam with good old plumber boy and his monkey helping them out. 3DS is in good shape and Vita...well let's not talk about Vita. If they do well then maybe all the indie "phones taking over" talk will cease for a bit.

3.1 millions-just for this small fish&chips eating island????

can't believe this.If you extrapolate this number by the overall world market share UK has this would mean an estimated 30mio consoles worldwide first 2 month after release.

Another thing is:bad economy  (and bad next-gen Wii U sales numbers could be a sign for low next gen performance)

Agreed. Figures are pretty unrealistic for a lunch. I mean, Australia only got 30,000 ps4s as far as I'm aware. I doubt any market other than the us would get near that amount.

too high of a number. what were the launch figures of the PS3 and PSP (dont those two have the highest launch numbers?)

wait hardware? that's proposterous unless both Sony and Microsoft sevearly gimp other regions and send a majority of their stock to the UK I don't see that as likely to happen. There is an off chance the demand is there (the UK is still a relatively small market and 3 million hardware units in a month is quite a lot).

When I first read it I thought they meant games for that timeframe, that's a little more believable but still a pretty outlandish estimate.

Systems Currently Playing: WiiU, PS3, 3DS

Also Have: Atari 2600, NES, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, DSLite, DSi, Android (RazorMax), iPhone (4), iPad (2)

LOL.. they will eat into each others potential costumers ...

Not going to happen. Not just because the estimated demand won't be there, but also because the supply sure won't be.

Those are ridiculous figures. In a region where a home console that does well can sell around 10m units in its lifetime, they expect one system (the PS4) to reach 20% of that within one month (launches November 29th, right?).

i will counter your common sense argument grounded in facts with, "..but i read it on the internet".

but seriously now, your right those predictions are much too high.  i didn't look into how the survey was conducted (legite or bullshit) but i thought the most interesting bit is the 1.8/1.3 ratio of 1.38 in favor of ps4.   the PR sony has released makes pre-orders sound much closer in US/UK.  i wonder if there is any truth to that ratio.

Have to side with MCV, 3.1 billion consoles is just unrealistic.

Jokes aside I don't believe in 3.1 million either. I doubt they'll ship that many units, and I have my doubts about the accuracy of the poll.

and what do these guys project worldwide? 20 million or what?
