Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is banning consoles over ‘GTA V’ leaks

The internet has been a little crazy over the past 24 hours, as a GTA V leak has been spreading images and videos from the game. While Grand Theft Auto V doesn’t release for five days, Microsoft is making sure to ban the consoles of those gamers who are playing a leaked version of the game and spreading content.

Rockstar Games has a specific policy that mentions leaking content of a game before the release, and one of the videos leaked contained the individual’s gamertag. As you can imagine, their system was banned by Microsoft which means they’ll need to purchase a new one to play on Xbox Live again.

Rockstar’s policy on pre-release footage of a leaked game is listed below.

Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes “early unboxing” videos.

With Grand Theft Auto V being one of the biggest titles to release in quite some time, it’s unfortunate to see the game leaked early. Are you actively searching for leaks, or are you trying to steer clear of spoilers? Rockstar isn't talking too publicly about it, its better to try to ignore it and reduce talk about it. Too bad M$ hasn't figured this out.

I was referring to M$'s inability to quit bringing up the specs difference.  The more they talk about it, the more it gets ingrained into peoples thoughts.

M$ banning people was probably by request of Rockstar anyway - even if Rockstar publicy says they won't/don't care.

I'm guessing it is because they don't want people buying copies before the release. Which is understandable and I have no problem with it, other people on the other hand do. Buy the game when it comes out, not when you think you should get it. Also isn't it illegal to sell it before the release date? So why shouldn't knowingly buying a game before release date? Or at the very least take the ban.

Would like to see more people get banned for playing games early. Don't break street dates, and don't break NDAs.

It's just that simple.

After 8 years on the market and numerous bans based on playing a pre pre release game, you would think people would be smart enough not to show their gamertag or go online with such a game.  I am sure MS really do not care about pissing off such people and if banning those people prevent more of those people from getting an Xbox then I am even more sure tears will not be shed.

haha shmuck, serves them right for leaking it

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

So why shouldn't knowingly buying a game before release date?

THat... is one of the silliest things i ever heard. Its illegal to break street date so stores cant put a game out for sale once they get the copies and grab all the sales for getting it in early. They get heavily fined if caught. (There is a number to call to report those things). Why should it be illegal obtaining the game through a monetary transaction at a legit store be illegal?

So because a store broke a street date you want to see the consumer punished? No wonder ms thought they could get away with their original idea
