What is the difference between a Prologue version and the actual game o.O?

(Serious question cause I havent played a GT game since 1 on PSX).

Think of it as a deluxe demo or a full game discounted and slatchered (for a gt game gt5 prologue was short, with few cars and modes... But even so had more content that most competitors on full version) but if a prologue would be the only way to play on ps4 for lets say 2 years i would certainly buy it bafore any nfs, motorstorm, midnight or even driveclub.
