Forums - Sony - Jack Tretton Outlines 3 Key Advantages Over Xbox One, PS4 Launch “Biggest in History”

Lineup just depend on taste, for me who not like cars or fps, knack is the game i really want on ps4 at launch, and will be very good for my kid in same time.

Plus Ps4 have lot of indie game and free mmorpg when comming out.

Quality wise depend on taste but i think its more diverse.

More powerful and cheaper are given.

Launch lineup is great for both consoles due to multiplatform titles. I prefer the MS exclusive launch games like Forza, DR3, and Ryse, but there are plenty of 3rd party titles and Killzone. Anyone who buys either console should be satisfied. I don't think we have seen launch lineups this packed with excellent 3rd party stuff since the DC launch.

Agreed.

this is just like that MS guy saying the Xbox one games are better. what do people think they will say the competing platforms have better exclusives? hellz no

Console partisans will say, no matter what the content is on their console of choice, the launch titles are better than what the competitor had.  Like, if Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 were an exclusive title, you would see ONE thread at least heralding how awesome it is, and how some console partisan prefers it over what is on the other consoles.  Even titles with just a logo, one paragraph description, ends up in someone's signature on forums like this (looking at you Agent).

Turkey Puncher is from Doom 3, by the way:

Well, this being said, at least the ONE is launching with a game in the genre the PS4 isn't launching with, and that is a fighting game.

So XB1 is launching with Turkey Puncher?

Wow. Can I change my pre-order?

It's pretty stupid to buy a console that you're presumably going to be playing games on for a good 3+ years or more if you're a core gamer for the launch line up.

Typically, if there are two games at launch that I'd actually want to pay full retail price for, that's a big "plus." Arguing over whether the remainder of a collection of mediocre/adequate games on a new platform somehow makes said platform more desirable seems kind of pointless to me considering those games aren't getting my money anyway.

Based upon disappointment I've had in the past with console/hardware launches, I'd say the first year of releases is considerably more significant as that takes into account any potential post-launch game droughts and hopefully includes that first real killer app that consoles generally don't launch with (I suppose Wii Sports counts to many).

That said, launch line up does matter more than it has in previous generations because neither the XB1 nor the PS4 will play previous generation games (until enabled by the magical power of The Cloud).

Presumably if you're going to pay $400-500 for your new box you're going to want to play something on it, even if it means buying some questionable, if not downright crappy first wave titles.

which competitors did he see come and go? sega was already there when they started with consoles

Most die hard Sega fans state that PS2 killed Sega.

Yep, they never blame Nintendo for keeping Sega weak and Sega killing itself with bad decisions. Sega had chances to come back but they did not play the game wisely at all.

well, that 100USD cheaper price is the biggest advantage.

It's not quite he same thing. Tretton says "Biggest, most diverse" those are objectively verifiable claims. Does PS4 have more exclusive games at launch? It's a yes/no answer you just count the exclusive games on each system. Does PS4 have games in a wider range of genres? That's also a yes/no answer, you count the number of genres, and if that's equal you count the number of games in each genre and see how the genres are balanced.

A claim that Xb one has the "best" launch games is a totally subjective claim. You might say yes it does, I might say PS4 has the better launch games. We're both right because they are based on our own tastes. So MS saying they have the best games is an unprovable claim, but it's easy to make the claim because no one can prove they're wrong.

Don't forget that "more powerful" is exaggerated and largely irrelevant as well, as has been proving generation after generation. So really all they have is "cheaper".

And all MS really has is their few extra features and the innovation from Kinect. Otherwise they are pretty much the same and the rest is PR.

You can’t have put much thought into that sentence, seeing as he neither exaggerated anything nor can we know if it's irrelevant.

To exaggerate something you have to define its scale in some way that can't be confirmed as a fact. Just saying "it's more powerful" is not an exaggeration if it's true, which it is and by enough to justify its saying. If he had said “its way more powerful” then the “way” could be perceived as exaggeration, but without it it’s just a statement of fact. The only time he made an exaggeration was about the line-up since he said “biggest most diverse” which makes the statement subject to a scale, thus allowing it to be interpreted as exaggerated.

You also can’t say their power difference is irreverent, as to do that you would need to know everything about both and have seen the results of each over an extended period of time. Seeing as you haven’t done either, I’m sure you can understand the flaw in that too.

It’s also funny you use “generation after generation” as proof of it being irrelevant, seeing as multiple generations have had a more powerful console with a clear advantage.

Anyway, that’s the end of that. Not trying to be rude, just felt like butting in since you seem to make statements like that a lot.

(Sorry if there are any typos etc, it’s 4:15am so I don’t give enough shits to spell check ;P)

What was the point of his post? I was making a straight forward comment regarding all the talk around the internet about the PS4 being 50% powerful, not so much just Jacks comment.

But since you went through such a long post just to try and argue semantics, I would argue that the word "more" in more powerful already implies scale and is an easily exaggerated term.

To my other argument, the most powerful system has never "won" a generation. Meaning it was irrelevant for the most part when it came to sales. Obviously it offers other advantages, but in the entire scheme of things, it's irrelevant.

that's what all the free to play and playstation plus titles are for.  Also I haven't played Minecraft since it was a free to play PC game so I may check that out.
