Can't wait for this 60 fps madness to go away. Overrated, overhyped, over-everything. Is it noticeable? sure. Is it cool to have? Yup. Is it important? NO.

To be fair, many thought this would be the gen that 60fps and 1080p would be common. Its disappointing to see that isn't the case.

I'd even settle with 720p to have 60fps.

I think it's more of the same of what we saw this gen. A lot of devs think there is more value in bumping up the in-game fidelity, in exchange for frame rate. Personally hate it, but i can understand why they would, seeing as most trailerS run at 30fps and screenshots run at... well.. yeah ¬_¬

From all the hype from Sony regarding the PS4, 1080p at 60fps shouldn't be a problem. While it might very well be the most powerful, it won't live up to the standard everyone thinks.

Couldn't agree more.  To me, 30 fps (maybe because it's closer to film's 24 fps) makes a game look more realistic.  60 fps, because of how smooth it is, just looks more cartoonish.  Personally, I prefer it when 60 fps is saved for games that have a more cartoonish artstyle, has a stylized combat system (like DMC), or is a racer.

"I think the most immediate thing people notice is the leap in visual fidelity. We have more horsepower with PlayStation 4 and that means you can do bigger, bolder things. It’s running at 1080p, it’s running far above 30 frames – we’re aiming at 60 – so that’s a very good thing. That’s the first thing people notice just the visuals, the way it feels."

While the remainder of the story talks about multiplayer, they've already confirmed that multiplayer will be running at 60fps.  So assuming this is single player.  Far above 30fps also sounds to be at minimum 45fps.  Hopefully they get 60fps, but if it's a locked 40+ then I don't think anyone will complain. Well.  I do think people will complain, just no one interested in a PS4.  You guys should just hope it's locked framerate and not unlocked, because then you'll start to notice framerate changes while you play.

You don't lock it at 40+.

Your screen will refresh 60 times each second, having it locked at 30 or 60 will make the time each frame is displayed the same. That's the problem with variable framerate, some frames last longer than others, and then you notice it stuttering and tearing.

I don't care how many frames per second is on the screen.. from what I've seen for next gen shooters nothing tops KZ:SF in terms of graphics. Honestly, I was most impressed by the graphics of this game at E3 over every other game as it was actual gameplay running in stellar real time graphics.

If every third frame was a duplicate I don't think we'd notice.  Just as long as it was consistent.  With as powerful as the PS4 is going to be, I'm not sure why they can't trick us into thinking it's 60fps by every third frame being a combination of the second and fourth frame(which the fourth frame is essentially the next first frame.)  There's already going to be input lag, so the game having to view the next frame prior to disiplaying it could increase it by a fraction of an ms wouldn't make much of a difference.

Hardly a disappointment. Developers can always choose to go with 60 fps. The question is, does it really worth it? Knowing that you can use these resources in other aspects of the game ( better AI, more things going on on the screen, better effects, dynamic weather.. etc). In my opinion it doesn't. However, I'm sure most of developers will push 1080p at 60fps once they have a better grasp on the hardware.

I honestly don't care. I never even think about it unless someone mentions it on a forum somewhere.

What you're saying is kinda irrelevant because in this case (Killzone Shadow Fall) the developers are opting not to have 60fps for a higher resolution. I think the best solution is give people an option in the options menu. 60fps with 720p or 30fps for 1080p.
