$14.99 Rosewill RNX-G300E IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card up to 54Mbps Data Rates Hardware-Base Encryption/Decryption Using 64-,128bit WEP keys, WPA and WPA2 are also supported - WINDOWS VISTA READY - Retail

Only real problem with ssj12's recommendation is this.

@superchunk: If you will be getting a lot of use out of wireless, pay a bit more for something better. Also, for future reference, disregard anything you see regarding WEP. It's basically a flashing neon sign reading "Free internet here." Not that WPA (PSK) is not brute forceable itself, but it's far stronger.

my wireless adapter supports WPA and WPA, Its fine.

You've misread what I said (or its meaning).  It supports WPA, but it's a piece of crap.  I mentioned the WEP vs WPA thing as a general FYI.

 well he can always switch out minor things like that. I kept him below his $1000 limit. Thats all I wanted to do. He already stated minor switches to my list.

Yea, e8400 looks good to me. Look at the Phenom (AMD answer to the Core 2). Its getting spanked!! Go Intel for sure. Don't waste you time with AMD.

Seems like a good set up, i would up the proccessing power of the AMD a bit maybe a 5000+ or something, if not go for a core 2 duo... a E6600 is a good chip... cheap and runs perfect for games.

I just looked dual core 64 bit Intel's and I'm see it starting at $125. So I can tell the price is going to much greater than the AMD setup.

So, what benefit would make spending a lot more on the Intel?

 YOU wouldn't... that's the problem, they have no idea what they are talking about.  You will want a good processor for floating point calculations.  AMD has the better FP unit then Intel.  Just make sure you get the AM2+ board so you can possibly upgrade it to a 4 core later.

Intel switches sockets like crazy, it's an upgraders nightmare...

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Ok, so I have had the same pc for the last 5 years. It's time to upgrade. I have spent the day browsing a few sites, mostly newegg.com, and have put together something that should be good for another 5 years. Well, I will want to get more memory, but, beyond that the rest should be ok. Oh, and when it is setup for media center I will be upgrading my wireless network to N.

* I will not be doing any gaming.
* I will be web developing with .NET
* I will be watching free porn. (who doesn't)
* I will eventually use it as a media center and DVR
* I will be using it for home business stuff and financials
* All prices from www.NewEgg.com
