This isn't about rewarding people for spending money on Xboxey things. This is about compensating the consumer for deep data mining on consumer habits.

Keep in mind, whatever MS "pays" you for this data, they expect to earn more when they sell it to third parties (that's third party marketers, not game developers).

Not sure why they don't implement a rewards program like Club Nintendo. Club Nintendo rewards you the most for buying new systems and games. This would probably help overall software sells for first party games.


Club Nintendo exists for Nintendo to do customer research on their own products. This rewards program aims to track broader consumer behavior. Games, TV, Movies in particular, but also social networks and other consumer behavior as shown by the "take a survey" option in the infographic.
