Forums - Gaming - What Is The Biggest System Seller of All Time?

Arius Dion said:
Pretty simple..I mean what do you think?

It's either

Super Mario Bros. - NES
Tetris - Gameboy
Wii Sports - Wii

I recall Gameboy being very popular for the pack-in Tetris. Space Invaders on Atari was also arguably what turned TV games from a novelty to a must-have.

lol @ the people saying Halo. They must be either pretty young or just straight up Nintendo haters.

Mario 64 vs Halo = Mario is the clear winner.

But yeah, there have been other even bigger system sellers. Like Wii Sports

Lol @ some of the answers. It's Wii Sports and Super Mario Bros 1 on home consoles, Tetris and Pokemon on handhelds. Some honorable mentions out to NSMB1, Final Fantasy 7, Halo 1, .M64 and GTA 3&Vice City.

Wii Sports + Super Mario + Mario Kart

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Super Mario Bros. was an industry seller in the 80s and has been going strong for three decades. Mario has spin offs (Mario Kart) that can sell systems.

In the history of gaming since I would say Wii Sports is the closest phenomenon ever witnessed.

Wii Sports or the original Super Mario Bros. Nobody else even lives in the city of that ballpark.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Mario, no doubt. Halo made the Xbox visible but Mario saves Nintendo systems on a regular basis.

Tetris, on the original Gameboy (and Pokémon kept sales solid in its later life).

Street Fighter II for the SNES.

Sonic The Hedgehog for the Genesis/Megadrive.

I think there´s no need to think much about that: Wii Sports sure is the biggest system seller ever. (although it was bundled, but I don´t think it changes the fact, really)

I´d put Tetris & Pokemon (GB). the original Super Mario Bros (NES) and Sonic (Genesis/Mega Drive) as other fine examples of big system sellers, just not as big as Wii Sports
