I'm glad my gamestop isn't like that. It would make every visit hell if I had to give the employees explicit details on the game I wanted. Because most of the games I buy aren't well known.

Ok this is alittle funny incident that just happened to me 10 mins ago when i called my local Gamestop. So you guys know that Nintendo is offering a limited edition of LOZ: Wind Waker HD that comes with a figure of Ganondorf inside but the catch is it goes from $49.99 to $59.99 (even though Nintendo listed the price at $44.99.... yep Gamestop is at it again) and is only available through Gamestop. So i call my local Gamestop to ask about it, everything is going good but as the conversation goes on he asks for my number so he can look up my account then he does the unthinkable...
[Him] "Whats the name of the game?" [Me] "Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD [Him] " For which system did you want to preorder this on?" [Me] "Its a Zelda game brother" [Him] "Yeah you said that and for which console did you want it on? Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo? (yes he said Nintendo not Wii U) [Me] "..........Hangs up" LOL
I found this very odd yet funny at the same time, its amazing that your job is to sell games and have a basic knowledge of them as well yet you ask me if i wanna preorder a LOZ game for the Xbox One or PS4.
On end note i will be going down there to preorder it in person when i go to check out their B2G1F offer in a few mins :D |
I have wondered this myself many times.
My hunch is NO. No they probably don't.
Just some random clerks looking for a job any job & Gamestop hires them.
I have never forgiven that crap store for replacing my Rhino's all those years ago!
Now Rhino's was run by gamers. At least the one in my town was.
The store might have had the slight aroma of body funk but that shop was a gamer's paradise!
I hate Gamestop. Always have, always will.
I only go there as a last resort if I go there at all.

P.S.: Can't believe this jabroni actually asked you what system Zelda was on. God!

WE ARE THE NATION...OF DOMINATION!
You should see people in the stores of my country... they make me cringe.
"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"
I just preordered Beyond 2 Souls at mine (just because they had 1/2 hour extra gameplay and the steelbook) and the guy couldn't confirm what content they had. Also he asked if it was a PC game.
My local Gamestop only has none who i would take their word on about anything video game related but the Gamestop that's about a 30 min drive from me has 2 people that know their stuff and 1 of them is a collector working there for the benefits of getting his discount on games and being able to take home some wicked video game memorabilia when the game isn't so new any more, man does he get some cool stuff sometimes!
A side from that it seems as though Gamestop isn't hiring people that know their games but are just putting everyday joes in there who didnt know Sega made consoles at one point. (true story btw!)
My friend got a job at Ebgames and all he had played was COD and didnt know a thing about games...Now he is a manager.

He asked what system you preordered it on. Could have been Wii, WiiU, 3DS for all he knew, and you narrowed it down to "Nintendo". I think he was just calling you out on your shenanegans in the most passive-aggressive way possible.

I'm currently working as a sales rep at a gamestop in my area and all of the employees there basically have every system and play just about everything.

in reference to KH3 release date
While there's no Gamestop in my country, there are dedicated gaming stores and all of them know a lot about gaming, so I rarely have this problem.
Although Wallmarts are a whole different story, I remember one time that I wanted to see how much the guy knew about video games, so I asked him that if I could see the case of Mario Galaxy for the PS3, at that particular Wallamart the games are in different sections (PS3, 360, Wii, 3DS, etc) so the guy went to the PS3 section and start looking for the game (he obviously wasn't going to find it), he even looked very deep just to try to find, after a while he just told me "Sorry, we don't have the game". While the guy was searching I was looking at Mario Galaxy in the Wii section. Haha I'm a horrible person :)
