Forums - Gaming - A question for those planning to get a launch XB1 and, to a lesser extent, PS4.

Launch console failure rates..
Does this not worry you? The PS3 was pretty bad, but nothing comes close to Microsoft's console failure rates. Especially at launch. Do you feel confident with the launch console you will be getting? Yes, they both say they have everything under control and we wont see the same problems again. But if history is to repeat itself, which it tends to, we likely will see them again. Are you comfortable with the fact that potentially 50% of you may have to send your beloved console in for repairs once, twice, maybe even three times in this generation. Or you may have to fork over $300 for a new console halfway through the generation. Or has Microsoft been in the console business long enough that this is expected from your consoles and it doesn't bother you?

I always wait for a redesign when buyng my Sony and Microsoft consoles. As someone who grew up in the Nintendo and Sega days, I find the quality of launch playstation and xbox hardware completely unacceptable.

Not trying to hate, just curious if it worries you. Proud owner of a PS2 slim, PS3 slim, and crystal Xbox. (PS4 slim in 2-3 years and XB1 slim in 5-6 years)

i'm just speculating but XBOX ONE and PS4 aren't that specialized or different from a pc. (except for add-ons). Nothing funny going on this time. Just ur average gaming pc with a fancy shell. (except for kinect).

the original Xbox was built like a tank. i think M$ rushed the 360. in a way, i feel like both the ps4 and xbox one are being rushed out of the door. i think your fear is founded.

Well I'm certainly not waiting years for a revision, so I'll play the odds. Got rrod 5 times but never had troubles with other launch systems.

Not at all.

I went through three 360's, but that's still less than the amount of Dreamcasts, and the same amount of PS1/2's I went through IIRC.

Most console failures now seem to be beyond our control, so my opinion is why worry about them.

You're taking a chance, regardless. I think I remember hearing about a few Wii U turning into bricks at launch. You really never know. I have ALL my original consoles, going back to my Atari 2600, and the only ones I've had trouble with are the NES and SNES. My original PS2 is still hooked to the television in the den.

However, I have never bought a console at launch. The Vita was the nearest at less than a year old. I normally wait until the first price cut and/or redesign.

Actually, the whole deal with the Wii U needing a huge patch has just about convinced me to wait on getting a PS4. That, and the fact that there are tons of PS3 games on my wish list.

I never had to send in any console besides the 360. My PSP-1000 broke, but that was my fault, I dropped it multiple times. And I bought a Super Slim PS4 because the fat lady became too loud for my taste. But it is still working. I would be worried about Xbox One, but I'm only getting a PS4, so I'm not worried at all. The only Sony device that ever broke on me was my old trinitron tv. And that sucker was 15 years old when it happened. If you ask me, Sony just builds some pretty good hardware. Be it smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, TVs, consoles or even keyboards. I got them all. And they are all running smoothly.

Damn, what did you do to break a NES and SNES? I've never in my life seen a NES or SNES that suffered from a hardware failure, and I've seen me a lot of them.

Wow, I've never seen a dead Dreamcast either. What do you people do to these poor things?

The first couple that I bought had faulty controller ports. Another I killed myself trying to mod it. I was a teenager and tech illiterate. A couple more eventually got faulty drives, because I played it so much what with it being the best console ever and all.
