They don't copy the mistakes.
Ugh. I hate it when a whole topic is based on a logical fallacy. Take your opponent's argument to a ridiculous extreme to discredit it. Sony does not follow Nintendo in everything. They do take quite a few ideas and copy them in blatant ways.
As for the answer to the question, third party support and media playback.

Huh... there are still people trying to brand that as a success. Go figure.

Wow, there's still people branding this thing as a success, who would've guessed. Anyways, how do those compare against the 150m+ Wiimotes in circulation?

15 million sales in a vacuum means absolutely nothing. How much money did they make off the Wii Move? How many of those moves were sold at full price? How much did Sony spend on Move software like Wonderbook, Move Heroes, Carnival Island, and Sorcery? How much did this software sell? How many games were supporting move a year after its release? Two years? How much did Sony spend on marketing?
You have to look at things holistically. I don't know how much Sony made or lost on the move, but judging by the sales of Move software, Sony's lack of support for it, Sony's not thinking a move bundle is worth having for the PS3, a lack of move inventory in stores, and an exceedingly short active lifespan, deep discounts on move stuff at many retailers, and so on, and opportunities lost by not working on other stuff (maybe some Vita software?) I'd say it was a flop.
The momentum is dying slow. The PS sold about 105 million, and PS2 about 160 million then there's the decline. PS3 sold about 80 million but might do about 90 million lifetime. The PSP Go was a flop and now you have the Vita. As of now the PS3 sold about half of what PS2 sold. Now is the PS4 that might be Sony's last console. Sony success for the most part is off of the PS2 & 3. Those the fanboys always and can only bring up. The PS3 is selling better then the Wii after three years on the market cause it became dated when everyone was looking to new, but still holds the title of generation leader. The Wii U holds the lead for next gen that they will maintain through software. Not only is the Wii U hardware amazing, Nintendo has money to put up a fight. Price drop September 20 and Zelda bundle could be deja vu, like what happened to the 3DS. Sony is losing its steam by the years.
