Forums - Gaming - Opinion: Xbox One vs PS4 is a contest of cheap put-downs

There is a difference between free speech leading to open debate and constructive criticism and what we see on internet gaming forums.  It doesnt help, it makes matters worse, because it polarises opinion leading to more gang mentality and less innovation from manufacturers due to fear.

In my opinion.

That is fair enough and i actually agree there but i think this goes for anything. Politics or any art form etc people are just biased, it's how we all are. It's hard not to hate the other side a little bit but yeah some people take it too far. If you think it is bad here, don't read any comments on gaming on youtube or anywhere like IGN.

At least in gaming, we get indies who will try to do something different alot of the time.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Is this thread about Phil Fish ? lol

Seriously fully agreeing with the point here.

People used to vote with their feet/ bucks, and having this natural process preceded by hate fests about everything/ anything is basically adding insult to injury.

While I'll agree, it's always been like that. This is nothing new.
PS2 players ragged on xbox gamers, then xbox made a resurgence with 360, and talked shit for a good 4 years. Now ps4 is coming back in dominance and it looks like vengeance will be had haha.

I think it's kinda fun actually. Maturity is to accept immaturity.

Errr... not your own immaturity though...

I completely agree. Even on this site you have people that only seem to want to attack MS or Nitnendo every chance they get, even if it means using 2 days worth of sales from 1 region to call a game a flop. I see grown men on FB all the time trolling Nintendo or MS fan pages and for what? Its embarrassing that these people try to represent gamers but have such immature attitudes about them.

I agree with the basic premise article although I disagree with some of the points he raises. Firstly, the gaming community is horribly immature, from the tabloid enthusiast press down to the users bickering on forums. Some of the comments left on game developer forums (e.g. Bioware after the ME3 ending or Dragon Age 2, death threats to the Treyarch employee) are a complete disgrace.

What I disagree with is that these big console/game events are somehow dedicated to people outside of the core gamer audience. The core gamers are the ones that actually watch these things and spread their views to the wider populace. Whilst they're certainly somewhat targeted to mainstream media's tech/entertainment sections, it's ultimately word of mouth that helps market these games/consoles.

The other thing, is that I don't think the sarcasm, the silly GIFs and one-liners are the problem with the core gaming community. As long as they're done in good humour, then they should just be considered as a bit of comedy.
