I agree with the basic premise article although I disagree with some of the points he raises. Firstly, the gaming community is horribly immature, from the tabloid enthusiast press down to the users bickering on forums. Some of the comments left on game developer forums (e.g. Bioware after the ME3 ending or Dragon Age 2, death threats to the Treyarch employee) are a complete disgrace.

What I disagree with is that these big console/game events are somehow dedicated to people outside of the core gamer audience. The core gamers are the ones that actually watch these things and spread their views to the wider populace. Whilst they're certainly somewhat targeted to mainstream media's tech/entertainment sections, it's ultimately word of mouth that helps market these games/consoles.

The other thing, is that I don't think the sarcasm, the silly GIFs and one-liners are the problem with the core gaming community. As long as they're done in good humour, then they should just be considered as a bit of comedy.
