The title makes it sound like Level 5 haven't made a DQ game in a while but they made DQ IX. X was an MMO. We'll see what happens with XI.

DQ XI would be great if it was on PS4 with much improved cel-shading, a big world again (maybe bigger than VIII), no random battles and faster battles, and a lower focus on grinding. But more than likely it'll be a 3DS game, which is OK but I want another console DQ.

I think if they made less of a focus on grinding it would cause issues in some weird way like these things always do. Like people would say it's dumbdowned etc.

I'd like the next DQXI to be on a home console, with the art style of DQVIII. Random battles are fine, and the pace wasn't bad. Grinding wasn't too big of an issue in DQVIII, unless you wanted to beat the Dragovian (is that right?) Trials. But then, you had metal slimes that were so satisfying to kill and gave you lots and lots of experience.

Will Level-5 ever make a non-iOS game again?

"But Dragon Quest X was a real console DQ. It was great for the series!"

Yeah, it was also an MMO. I certainly don't want a subscription fee to go along with the game purchase. Also, I might want to replay the game in 20 years, after its servers have all shut down.

Plus, SE doesn't know shit what's good for their series. They've basically flushed FF, their biggest franchise, down the toilet.

Oh yeah, there was no need to grind at all to beat DQ VIII. Although I still see people thinking they do. I grinded for a while to get that Dragon Soul attack or whatever it's called for the Trials but got tired of gaining only like 1 level per hour (didn't have Lightning Spear, was stuck with Metal Slash) and managed to beat the Trials without the attack. In DQ IX though you need to grind to progress in the post-game. Lame.

And yeah DQ VIII art style with PS4 level cel shading would be ideal.
