No, granted it isn't struggling just because of its name but the name is a negative and thus not helping the system in the slightest.

Wow. The September issue of "Blatantly Obvious Statements" came early. Nice!
I wonder if them dropping the price was also an announcement of price being another issue.
Its not the primary issue but it contributes to the issue they also verified in regards to console identity and the fact that many people are have no clue its a new console vs an attachment/extension of Wii.
No, the main problem is the design itself. Even if they made more games that made good use of the Gamepad, the console as a whole would remain largely undesireable since it's still aimed between two markets and missing both.
What will Reggie say when the price is cut, massive games have released and the numbers drop down below poor levels again in 2014? Blame 3rd parties (again)?
The Wii U was a mistake, stressed and forced onto the market by the Wii's severe decline and the last remnant of support abandoning Nintendo (save for handhelds, that is). It was all but obvious in name, design, initial software, lack of functionality out of the box, slew of software and OS issues, poorly thought out SKU's, haphazard hardware and the atrocious idea of the Gamepad.
They simply had to do something since they were unable to stop the Wii from plummeting and they messed it up big time with the Wii U, simple as that.
The Wii U will keep on struggling for a couple of years and the likes of Reggie and his fans will keep on pointing out problems where there are none or where they are irrelevant, and will never identify the real issue; the console itself is unappealing and lacks aim, ambition, planning and support.
Edit; I do find it funny that they are now doing what we all said they should have started with; phase out the stupid 8GB, what the hell were they thinking with that option? The 8GB should never have seen the light of day. Nintendo have simply lost track of the home console market and made an absolute mess out of everything. The price cut will also ensure that they keep losing money on hardware.
Surely the name helps it struggling, but it's by far the smallest reason.
