I was wondering with tv's getting bigger, 1080p resolution 4 player splitscreen would work great nowadays. A 960x540 window is almost as good as sub HD games this gen, and still 50% higher res then DVD quality. Both ps4 and X1 tout being able to recognize who holds the controller or what controller is where in the room and automatically adjust player locations. But where are the games using these features? All I have read about so far is online co-op or helping out on a tablet.

Killzone SF, no local co-op.
Driveclub, can't find anything about splitscreen, probably not
Forza 5, no info
Dead rising 3, co-op but no info if local
Knack, supports limited local co-op.

Online is starting the suck the local fun out of gaming. With auto log and drivatar you don't even have to talk with your friends anymore. They just become a statistic to compare yourself to. I do hope some fun splitscreen are shown soon. Messing around with my kids in for example splitscreen burnout paradise would be great.

i really really really hope that destiny has local co-op. would love it if KZ had some too. basically i will buy CoD with my brother because of this feature alone.

I know what you guys are getting at, that Nintendo's console is (as usual) a haven for local multiplayer. But the question was about split-screen, specifically because gamers never had a problem crowding around tiny, square, 30-inch TVs split into 4 segments for splitscreen, and now that TVs are widescreen and two to three times that size, developers are dropping splitscreen entirely in favor of online multiplayer only.

Just stick with Mario Kart. It's the definition of splitscreen gaming.
