Forums - Nintendo - Has anybody had to replace/repair their WiiU gamepad?

In the process of transporting my system from California to Texas, somewhere along the way my gamepad's touch screen was messed up. I'm considering sending it in to Nintendo for repairs/replacement, but I'm also considering ignoring warranty and just repairing it myself.

Anybody have experience with these things? Since the touchscreen was damaged, they'll charge me for the repairs - $85 + $10 shipping + tax. For that price, I'm very interested in just replacing the touchscreen myself (because I can obtain a replacement touchscreen for pennies compared to that, and my LCD is 100% intact).

So, has anybody done this? Anybody have suggestions/advice for me?

Damages aren't covered by warranties - only manufacturer defects.

Also worth noting: Nintendo will still repair the gamepad (for the same fee) if I try fixing it and fail.

I'm almost certainly sold on doing the repair myself; I'm currently just looking to see if anybody has pointers for the repair process from experience. I'm finding replacement touchscreens (which are nothing more than a digitizer and are usually very simple to replace) for less than $10 after shipping.

Have you at least talked with Nintendo? Cause they do repair most damages for free... Unless your screen is like zomfg cracked or something... Cause that $85 free I mostly hear for the 3ds and that is out of warranty repair... I highly suggest you go call them before opening it up yourself cause opening it will probably void your warranty...

My wiiU is still very good and hasn't been broken yet... than again I don't use it very often and will probably start using it from October

But if you must... take a look at this:

Hope that helps

Wow thats expensive :S

If it's damaged for something that is not a manufacturer defect, they will not replace it. They never have, they never will. That is how it has always worked and that is how it always will work. All manufacturer warranties work like that (though some companies will occasionally waive that, if they feel it's an unfair thing to charge you on... Nintendo isn't like that).

But yes, I've talked to them.

Are you sure the screen you found is compatible with the software on wii u? Like will you plug it in and have the system wig out?
