Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are third party devs really going to support X1/PS4 much more than WiiU?

For most people on the web this seems to be a given. but the same persons also thought that the support for the Sony and MS consoles will be much better than the WiiU one from day one. Well it seems that's not the case at all as WiiU has a much better launch third parties line up than its competitors:

WiiU
Assassin’s Creed III - Ubisoft
Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition - Warner Bros. Interactive
Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Activision
Darksiders II - THQ
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two - Disney Interactive
FIFA Soccer 13- EA Sports
ESPN Sports Connection -Ubisoft
Game Party Champions - Warner Bros. Interactive
Just Dance 4 - Ubisoft
Madden NFL 13 - EA
Mass Effect 3 - EA
NBA 2K13 - 2K Sports
New Super Mario Bros. U - Nintendo
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - Nintendo
Nintendo Land - Nintendo
Rabbids Land - Ubisoft
Scribblenauts Unlimited Warner Bros. Interactive
Sing Party - Nintendo
Skylanders Giants - Activision
Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - SEGA
Tank! Tank! Tank! - Namco Bandai
Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition - Namco Bandai
Transformers - Prime 2K
Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013 - Ubisoft
Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper - Tecmo Koei
Wipeout: The Game 3 - Activision
ZombiU - Ubisoft

New Super Mario Bros. U & Nintendo Land are third-party-games now? ;)

The Wii U had a great launch line up even if 60-70% of the games on there were ports. The problem with the Wii U, is that even if it sold well after launch, it still wouldn't have got as much third party support as the PS4/Xbox One.

Sure it's getting games like Assassin's Creed 4, Watch Dogs, etc, but so is the PS360. What about games like Mirror's Edge 2, The Division, Destiny, etc? Games that are in the future being released for the PS4 and Xbox One. Where is the Wii U version for those? It's going to be the exact same with the Wii U as it has been with the Wii, since they're making money off two fanbases having to do little else other than directly port it to the other machine. The Wii U, like the Wii before it, will mostly continue to get third party support through PS360/Wii U multiconsole games that are still released for the next couple of years.  After the PS360 are no longer a viable source of income for publishers and sales are minimal, you expect them to develop a game exclusively for the Wii U when they could make more money on the PS4 and Xbox One?

The situation is not similar to the Wii. Even when you look at ones of the most impressive "next gen" titles like MGS5, BF4 or WD, all those games can be ported to PS360 and so to WiiU too and WD already is. So the situation is much more similar to the early 360 one as even if some games are not announced right now on the platform they probably could easily be ported eventually. Can FFXV, KH3, The Division and others really not be running on WiiU ? That's the big question but it seems much much more likely than ports from PS360 to Wii in what cases it was simply impossible for all the AAA projects.

Why compare just launch day? It would be more accurate to compare the respective 3rd party line up for the incoming months ;)

Final Fantasy 15, maybe, as it was once being developed for the PS3.  It's no longer for the PS3, so who knows if it could even run on it.  Kingdom Hearts 3?  Don't know, don't care.  But then there's The Division.  Have you even seen the Division?  It's quite obvious this game can't run on the Wii U.  The Division is an open world with graphics that are far better than The Last of Us, and the Wii U isn't much more powerful than the PS3.  Watch Dogs is going to be on Wii U, but you're going to be disappointed if it's going to have the graphics to the version they've been showing off at press conferences.  The only reason the Wii U is getting it is becausue the PS360 and Wii U are going to get the same version while the PS4 and Xbox One are going to get their version.

Here's a video of The Division.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njfj6KwEAfg.

Look at the preorder chart. Not a single game on there is for Wii U. You can throw as much garbage fitness games on the launch line up as you want, none of that matters to a third party developer if it won't sell on the Wii U.

Preordering is a matter of intelligence. (I am not saying who is the smarter bunch of people here so no offence to anyone)  but seriously I know not a single "real" gamer  who is perordering anything.

Why would they be?  Whats the point in owning a game day1? Feeling cool and having the NEWEST game so you can talk to other people about it?  Lame reason! Helping the industry in "destryoing itself" with crap like preorder bonuses? Lame reason!

Would you go and pay for a movie before you know if its any good? Just because it has a NAME you know?

The only reason I would ever preorder something is if I would get the collectors edition for the price of the standard edition. That would be the only reason for me to preorder a game.

Most likely Third Party publishers will treat PS3/360 as their primary market for quite while yet and only fully support X1/PS4 once they get a required user-base to make it financially feasible to release exclusive generation 8 content. But If X1/PS4 doesn't get the required user-base and companies like Samsung. Apple, Google start to make a bigger push towards the gaming market. Sony and Microsoft could be in massive trouble as the Third Party's have no obligation to make either X1/PS4 a success IF better opportunities are available elsewhere.
