Forums - Sony - Why is dedicating a Gamescom conference to new IPs and indies a bad thing?

I would guess, though the indie games anounced ther were quiet good and fun, most of the Vita owner were dissapointed by the lack of support Sony showes for the handheld. There are barely any tripple A games anounced after Tearaway and Killzone have been released. Sony anounced almost only ports at E3 and while there are a few great games that deserve a port to the Vita, owners wanted a first party game they would be excited for beyond 2013. Everyone hoped the relief would come at Gemescon with the announcement of at least one 1st party tripple A game. It just looks like Sony doesn´t care about a handheld anymore.

We are dissapointed about the lack of support sony gives his second handheld. A German ps vita forum started a petition to let sony know that we the gameing comunity expect first party support for the Vita. As a gamer please help us to succeed that sony can hear us. Therfore here ist the link:

I think if this conference hadn't been a few months before the PS4 was due to come out people would have enjoyed it more. As it was before the PS4 is released, people were expecting some more big (as in AAA) game announcements for the console.

Rime alone cleaned the floor. Nothing else was needed.

I have no problem with indies.

Only issue i had was that the conference was badly filmed (that director...lol)... and badly paced. Also as usual gamers hyped it up and everyone was expecting some kind of bomb.

Now the dust has settled, its ok, a nice selection of games and the videos that have been released since have shown some to be better than i thought when they were showed by the bad director.

I fully understand why they havent shown any new IP's or AAA games for next year... there currently is no point. They have sold out of consoles, and expect that to continue till early next year... only when you start to have lots of stock on shelves do you need to start telling people more reasons to buy.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I liked the PS4 stuff okay. It was the Vita showcase that left me cold.

As an owner, I'm not all that excited about it being "the indie platform". Unlike on the PS4, the indie push on Vita is more a desperate move to pad out the library in the wake of third party abandonment. Hell, that we're getting Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway seems miraculous to me, considering how many other Sony IP haven't even been mentioned for the Vita almost 2 years in.

Beyond that, I prefer the scope and scale of games like Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, KZ: Mercenary, and so forth. I didn't buy the Vita to play indie titles on the go.

I thought it was a good conference but Sony need to put the indie push on the back burner for a while and start announcing their big guns, as while it is all well and good them making it easy for indies to come onto the platform the majority of gamers will make their console decision on the big games that are well known not the indie ones!

I was expecting Uncharted 4 and hopefully another Vita AAA game to be announced which didn't happen (although Murasaki Baby looks eerie and creepy = awesome) so hence why I was a bit disappointed!

I loved Gamescom 2013. I already know that all studios are working on PS4 games and we already have a ideas on what to expect. So I'm pleased to see new stuff (Rime, Murasaki Baby, shadow of the beast and a lot other indies) during Gamescom which wouldn't have received any attention at all.

If they just announced one more AAA game (new Uncharted or God of War ), then I would have been more than happy.

I thought it was rubbish, the only thing that got me excited was the GT6 stuff.

The rest of it was just trailers for previously announced games that really added nothing, boring announcments and indie garbage and of course a few cinematic trailers.

And that cameraman....

I have nothing against indie games, but when a whole freakin' hour is dedicated to them, that's something I find ridiculous. AAA games don't have to mean shooters or sequels, it can be new and original titles. The PS4 is a new console with new capabilities. It would make sense to hype games taking advantage of those new capabilities instead of concentrating on indie games that could very well just be released on current gen platforms.

Sony needed to show why we should make the jump to PS4, or why we should choose a PS4 over Xbox One. The only thing Sony seems to have on Xbox One so far are timed exclusivity for indie games. Xbox One will eventually get those games but also has a bunch of none-first party big budget AAA exclusive games.

I had been leaning towards a PS4 but after the conference, I really think that Xbox One is the better choice, at least for the first year or so of the next gen cycle. Just hyping indie games for your next gen platform, what a ridiculous decision.
