Many books and movies, and other mediums often portray adults as the "bad guys." I suppose it's possible that it could rub off onto the kids, whom may already think that.

That's not gonna prevent them from being spoiled brats. Simply avoiding giving your kids what they want in an attempt to shut them up, and rewarding them when they actually behave is a step in the right direction though. In other words, make sure that their path to the reward doesn't involve any bratty behavior.

And as for punishments, not giving them a reward really is punishment enough. It's better to have them realize that they won't benefit from bad behavior than it is to have them fear making demands (as some of them may be warranted).

Some reason I have a hard time comprehending how such a beautiful post was created by soulfly666.  Although, I did meet a few nice guys from clan 666 on bnet way back in the Diablo/SC days.  I would expect a fuck that shit response with someone with your username.  I suppose I shouldn't hastily judge people based on their username.

My dad used a belt (would snap it together before spanking to instill fear in me) but he also used a wooden paddle which was decently thick and had holes in it (I suppose for less wind resistance while swinging?).  Last time my dad tried to spank me?  I was 16 and the reason was because I wasn't painting the fence fast enough even though I was being paid by the job completion not the hour.  I had some friends stop by unexpected and were talking to me while I semi painted the fence.  I ended up running out of the house after I figured out why he brought me into his room.  I was able to stay away from him by running around a glass greenhouse which I could see where he was going and I would run opposite.  He eventually gave up and went back inside and that was the last time he tried to spank me.

OP. I use a lot of "Senhor" e "Senhora" (the words in Portuguese) here... I get so used that I can't talk without use them with old people... sometime my boss (that is 10 years old than me) said ""Senhora" is your mon"... he was offended because called her "Senhora" lol.
