Well, it's not the gap is getting smaller, it's just that we won't look at the same things.

This gen had realistic models and texture, now it's going to be about facial animation, particle effects, dynamic lighting, alpha transparency ...

Every console game I've played this gen has had awful muddy textures. They brought the textures into nearly every PC port and it sucked. Not to say the games were bad on the console as I enjoyed them. Just the textures were not great. The PC had advanced particle effects, dynamic lighting, etc. I guess it was a gen of its own? Anyways I look forward to seeing improved facial animation. Consoles getting these things mean every PC port now will finally get better stuff.

Well, on a 1500 $ pc, of course you can ask for better textures. Still, even on PC, facial animation are still laughable.

And if you still get retail, you'll need a bluray drive, as it's the new universal format.

Every single gen, people always think and say things like this.

The truth is, yes. In 5 years these launch games will look like crap.

i don't recall those claims every gen. regardless, ps360 set the standard in a way that there will never be any big graphical jump anymore.

No they didn't.

Read up on some old threads if you want. Here's the 360 reveal. Most people thought the graphics sucked. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46948

Also people talked about diminishing returns, a lot.

who cares about the reveal? check what ps360 do at their best and it's obvious that a big graphical difference is impossible.

Who cares about the reveal? You should.

It shows the mindset of people back in 2005. They were saying almost word for word what you're saying today. They were obviously very wrong.

Hey I admitted the facial animations suck on every platform. Which is why I said I look forward to it. My PC actually cost me 550 so far after selling old parts and upgrading at the right times. I plan on upgrading my GPU and CPU soon to gain even more of a boost.

Yes, native specs will be improved. To me that means a lot. People constantly talk about how 1080p and stuff, but most games are well below 720p in native specs. Textures and specs will be increased and with more RAM they can have more events happening at once like real time weather, ect.

550 = tower ?

I still prefer big screen, pad and same screen multiplayer. But if these disappears from console gaming, I'll go PC too. But I don't care about realism in textures in dynamic lighting, so I have no interest in it right now. (tough I play some indies/doujin, VN and online games on PC)

^I almost second that.

Almost because I can show you native 1080p textures looking like shit, as well as 60 fps on my shmups don't look as amazing as on forza.

But reaml time weather, on cloud IA etc are the things I'm waiting for (Plus, again, non laughable facial animation)

I think it will. Killzone and inFAMOUS already show what my platform of choice can do, and they are launch and launch window titles, respectively. The 360 didn't provide me with any reasons to 'jump in' the then next gen until Gears of War. All of the platform's games prior to that looked only a cut above the then current gen's offerings (if all that). And look how far we have come with the 360. Halo 4 is worlds apart from Perfect Dark 0, and God of War Ascension puts titles like Genji 2 to shame. Another thing to note ... the original Xbox had a very short lifespan, so I''m inclined to think if they continued to develop for it the 'gap' would have seemed smaller. It was largely untapped, in my view (relative to the system's in this gen which was the longest). With that said, I think my $400 purchase will be justified. =D

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Trust me that's another reason why I like keeping consoles around. I need that same screen multiplayer at times. As for big screen gaming I have a large TV I can game on. As well as a 360 gamepad and Wii-U gamepad+mayflash. I utilize the gamepad for a sports game I play and some racing games. Oh and sonic too as well as a few others. Certainly comes in handy. I'm not the type of PC gamer to write off all console games. I just really like 1080p and 60fps. Feels so much more smooth in my opinion. Oh and natural to play at 1080p as opposed to 720p.

I'm just wondering are graphics really going to be that much better next gen. I'm sure they'll be somewhat better, but nothing mind blowing. I think this is going to be the smallest graphical leap we've had in some time. Don't get me wrong,I'm hoping to jump on the nextgen bandwagon at least a year after launch, but I want specific examples of how graphics are going to improve next gen. I'm not a tech guy,so if you give me examples, please dumb them down for the average consumer. I think some of these next gen games look somewhat better, but nothing that blows my mind. Please, help a simpleton understand all of this!!!!!

The difference between the Xbox and Xbox 360 is roughly equal to the difference between the PS3 and PS4.  So expect that big of a leap...

Well, then you gotta wait to check what PS4 will do at its best. Probably way ahead of this:

http://images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/5/9/0/9/6/7/1.bmp.jpg

Look at those PS2 buildings in the background.

facepalm to the infinite. the point is that regardless of x360 first showing, right know the ps360 are in a level where it's impossible to have a big graphical jump. it doesn't matter if ps4 is using 10%, 50% or 200% of it's capability, graphics cannot advance much more.
