MS just shot themselves in the foot.

how so ??? microtransaction is the fastest most profitable business model in the VG market today

and how is it MS... since when Crytek is an MS studio ????

this model will be quite usual on all consoles sooner than later....

Miscrosoft are publishing the game, they also paid crytek for it to be exclusive, meaning they get to make all the big decisions.

In a game where the big multiplayer interaction is focused on customiation, weapons , armor and such paying to win will cause people to play the game less or to not buy it.

Pay to win! Wooooo!

Seriously, meh. It's fine in Mass Effect as it is not competitive, but this is one of the many reasons why I haven't played Ultimate Team

how is P2W if you can have exactly the same outcome grinding.... the essence of P2W is that only if you spit cash you can access to the highest/best content or final stage of a game.... his is not the case.....

You get better equipment by spending money, giving you a serious competitive advantage. I guess it does depend how it is tuned

I came in here to say "big deal a lot of games have micro transactions this gen", but these aren't cosmetic, they let you buy a competitive advantage?

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

WALL OF TEXT IS HARD TO READ.

also boo wrt pay-2-win.

Fact: Random loot booster packs is actually how the ancient Roman Gladiators used to upgrade, as well.

This is kind of lame, to be honest. It lets someone start off from day one with an advantage, based purely on real-world cash. Let's say you get the game on launch day, you go out there with your base gear, ready to start grinding for gold, and you run into a guy who just bought his way to awesome loot. Gonna be fun getting your head stomped in.

I guess it won't be as much of a difference in the long run but I still don't like seeing pay-to-win in multi-player. That's probably our future, though.

that is not the essence of pay-to-win.  that essence of pay-to-win is you can pay money to gain competitve advantage.  this includes exclusive access to in-game items as well as simply faster access to in-game items than grinding.  in short -- if the balance of the game is thrown off so that those willing to pay money have any competitive advantage then the game is pay-to-win.

but you don't pay to win you pay to go faster..... I really don't see your point.... people who don't want to pay, just play as usual and the one that want to go faster and don't mind paying just pay.... nobody has an advantage over the other beside time maybe.... and you don't play against each other so I don't see what's the issue here.... it evens gives you the adavantage if you play with a paying player since he will have good gear and you will be able to beneficiate from the boost being able to take on harder waves...

bitching against micro transaction just because you don't like the word is stupid.... there is many ways to implement it and some of them are better for the player....

First of all we do not know all the details, like how much time it would take to unlock things without microtransactions, or if some items will only be available by paying.

I play lol and dota 2, games supported by microstranasactions. Microtransactions aren't made for the player they are made to get more money from customers. They DO NOT belong in a non f2p game.

no you don't you just get them faster.... everything is available just the same for everybody.... plus you don't PvP you fight hords.... the worst it can do is he gets a higher kill rate until you reach the same level

Pay to win and F2P need to die in flames. Hate those models so much.
