Forums - Nintendo - Crytek Announce New CryEngine! Nintendo Wii U Supported

Crytek have ushered in a new era for their state-of-the-art CRYENGINE  technology, with  the launch of the new CRYENGINE; an ever-evolving technology service, with always up to date access to the latest features in CRYENGINE for commercial game licensees.

CRYENGINE users will also benefit from the coming together of Crytek’s Engine Licensing and Research & Development teams; a move designed to double the level of one-to-one care game licensees can tap into, in essence offering Crytek’s R&D as a service for developers using the new CRYENGINE.

On top of these changes, the new CRYENGINE supports development on current and next generation consoles (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U), alongside PC, with further platforms to be added in the near future.

Uh oh, Crytek refers to Wii U as next-gen.....watch out...

Other than Crysis and the upcoming Ryse, what games have Crytek made? And what other games use Cryengine?

That has a pretty good list....though it's not really that many games. It's a shame, because it looks like it is a great engine to work with, and you can achieve nice and stunning graphics with it.

Ya I just looked it up, I wonder why so many devs chose Unreal over CryEngine this gen

Unreal was both cheaper and easier to develop for and then publish a game with. Very easy business choice for some with not so much cash.

There's a difference between "console supported" and "console can actually use features of new engine". Looking at hardware, the WiiU will not be able to run any new features and might as well run older versions of the engine. Now I don't know how well the other 2 consoles will do either, but unless they are really capable of running high end DX11 features, then they will also struggle.
