Is it really surprising the DS is outselling the PS2 for the same period? Hasn't Japan always been a very strong hand held market? Also it's cheaper...

 Actually, the PS2 has outsold the GBA by 5 million over the long haul. But launches aligned, the GBA had outsold the PS2 by one million at this many weeks in the game. The DS has outsold the PS2 by 7 million.  So it's safe to say that the DS will definately blow past the PS2 over time. How much time? Hell, the way things are going, maybe a year and a bit.

Indeed, the worst news for Sony is that PS3 is selling more consoles than games.

This means that people are buying it for a cheap(er) BR player. This is good for BR ( I wonder if there are many Japanese BR titles? ) but bad for PS because of the brand dilution

Good news for MS is despite miserable console sales, attach rate is really high. Tho this is probably due to the title launches this week.

However, even on non-launch weeks, attach rate for the 360 is >1. The good news for Nintendo is obvious, so no need to repeat it (it would be like gloating)

Were some big 360 games just released in japan, hardware is up 25%, which is still not much but still significant, and it beat the PS3 in software
