The "heels on the zero suit" thing is overblown to a certain extent as well. Check her model in Brawl.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Other M:

It's just so bad.

Hence why i wrote "to an extent." The heels are exaggerated, but an agreed-upon part of the Zero Suit.
See, with much of Other M, I felt i could see what Sakamoto was trying to do, though a few of them certainly fell flat.
Re: Samus' characterization. I always saw Samus as being thoughtful and introspective, as well as somewhat socially maladjusted due to her upbringing, so it did not really bother me.
Re: Obeying Adam: It was her desire to prove to him that she was more mature, mature enough to obey his commands. While this became stupid at some points (namely the Varia Suit), i bought into it as being no less stupid than an explosion that happens to damage Samus' suit enough to remove features but not to kill her (a la Metroid Prime).
Re: Controls: these i liked, aside from first-person missile shooting. The game felt liquid smooth, like a 2D Metroid properly translated into 3D, unlike the tanky Prime (and remember, i loves me some Metroid Prime).
Re: Samus' freakout. Here's where i feel Sakamoto erred, first in assuming that gamers would know of Ridley's role in her childhood (of the manga). The whole thing felt like a retcon, and where it was in the timeline (after she's killed Ridley several times already) means it just makes no sense at all.
Re: Power Bomb the Metroid Queen: this assumes that you've played and beaten Metroid II, and that you beat Metroid II by discovering the "morph ball bomb her innards" trick. You would have to know both to be able to intuit what to do when the Queen Metroid sucks you up in Other M. Again, more dangerous assumptions on Sakamoto's part.
The game was flawed, but not horrid.
