UPDA TE! A look at the UK resent eShop sells.

Nintendo digital sales have been a huge success, starting off with Fire Emblem: Awakening, the digital version sold more then the retail version at launch. Then when Animal Crossing: New Leaf was release, that's where eShop lift off, managing to sale over 500k on the first week in the US. As the Wii U tend to have a week sale per quarter, it eShop sales says other wise. Nintendo manage to gain impressive sells of the Wii U eShop thanks to game like Earthbound.

If Nintendo is able to make a deal with Activision and have Cod: Ghost be release digitally, making it ten dollars cheaper, but still having that next gen engine running on the Wii U same with the PS4 and Xbone, it'll be a better value and make the Wii U look a bit more attractive. Plus, (though its not the best) free online on the Wii U version.

I definitely think they should use this as an excuse to dump a lot more money into their online. Catch up with the competition with online services. I mean, if anything is a clue on how popular their online services can be, it would be flipnote studio. That app recently released in Japan, was supposed to have already released in Europe and I believe America as well but got delayed due to the fact that so many people used it.

release FFVI and Chrono Trigger in the west already!

I think the best way to say it is that they are playing it safe and slowly.  They are testing the waters (a lot) before making a full dive.  Just speculation, but I agree that they should put the money into actually getting up to competition standards.

I still dont know why Nintendo thinks its a good idea to sell full retail games for $60 on the e-shop with no price drops, even months after release.

They should take lessons from Valve and Steam.

Pretty much what everyone criticise Nintendo about, their heads are still in the ninties. Look at the reason why Smash Bros isn't getting a story mode. Maybe this big Autume update that's suppost to optimize and add tons of features will fix all of that. Rumor that the next big update for the Wii U and 3DS will finally connect one another. Sort of similar to the PS Vita and PS3 or PS4. Finally the eShop account will be connected to.

Hopefully with the crap load of money their going to make with Super Mario 3D World and Pokemon X and Y, they can use that money to improve their online service and built a better version of the Gamepad and Pro controller. :P

The information you extracted from Gamasutra articles and Nintendo PR is wrong. In other words, you are misunderstanding and misrepresenting it.

Nintendo's digital business sure is growing, but it's still a far cry from their retail sales. Obviously, niche games benefit much more from digital sales, because there are no problems with availability in stores.

Although I would say the general premise of the information is correct.  Nintendo has seen some great successes with their digital store, and proves that there are a lot of people using it at the very least.

He's only telling you half the story.  When FE released in most places the physical version was extremely hard to find, hell even EB Games was only selling digital codes for the game, that is the only reason the digital version sold more than the physical, if there was enough physical versions then it would have sold way more.  Animal Crossing is also just one of those games that fits better as a digital download vs a physical for the average person.
