Pokémon X Sells Out on Amazon Japan in Less than Five Days, Pokémon Y Still Available
On August the 10th at 10 AM preorders for Pokémon X and Y were opened in Japan, and the local branch of Amazon ran out of the 3DS bundles with the game in less than nine hours, but how is the actual game by itself selling?
Turns out it’s flying off the shelves as well.
It took less than five days for Pokémon X to sell out on Amazon Japan (which is significantly less than the time it took Monster Hunter 4 to run out of stock, for instance), while Y is still available at the moment of this writing. Considering that X is now ranked second and Y is ranked first on the retailer’s sales rankings we can pretty much expect Y to run out of stock quite soon as well.
According to Amazon Japan, the retailer had prepared an allowance of more than 100,000 copies of the game, even if it’s unspecified if that number was related only to the bundles or to the whole offering. The latter case is the most probable, and almost 100,000 copies preordered in five days on a single retailer probably means that Pokémon X and Y is going to smash records.
Why did X sell out faster than Y? Your guess is as good as mine here. Maybe Japanese gamers like Xerneas more than Yveltal? Can’t say I agree there, but to each his own.
