Forums - Gaming - What Next Gen Games Are Not Just Current Gen Games That Look Pretty?

I like how no one read the OP. Everyone bringin up games like infamous which is a pretty version of the current iterations of the game. I would say Forza for the cloud based AI. Any Wii U games that make good use of the pad. Everything else is just pretty version of current gen games, and that is what we should expect. Its not every day that new game experiences can come out, just tweaks of current ideas that bring us to where we are today. Games will allow more people online, better AI and will push current ideas to new levels, but not reinvent the wheel for the most part.

THIS.

Ryse and The Division look pretty next-gen-ish to me. Several games like Infamous (when you look up close at everything) unfortunately don't look that impressive at all compared to others, that one in particular looks like a souped up PS3 game (I looked at non-bullshots, and yeah....not that impressive). But we'll see in the future.

All of those games could be accomplished in the current gen.

No Gamepad ;)

If you're looking at this that way then yes, because theres no complete tablet integration just yet, but every console will be using tablets in some form next gen for supply and secondary gaming.

Um what gameplay this gen wasn't possible on last gen systems?

Yeah something like the last of us wouldn't be the same since it relied so much on emotion, but the gameplay could be identical while having it look like an ok ps2 game.

My train of thought though is that games are much more than their gameplay mechanics. Hence I agree with Jaywood even though we're not conforming to the op's rules.

The level of fluid animation, mo-cap and scale would not have been possible on the PS2. The closest you would get to it would be RE4.

So worse graphics ;)

I like how you blame everyone for not reading the OP, and then bring up Infamous which was mentioned in the OP.

.

Well graphics are a big part of a videogame or else theres no game. Ai gets smarter as well.

Nintendoland (tons of gameplay that requires gamepad)
ZombiU (gamepad specific utilization makes the game)
Watch_dogs (they've specifically stated how much they have to remove from AI and overall world to put it down to PS360)

I can't think of anything else. Everything else is just an upgrade on graphics at this point. Kinda why everything else has last-gen ports with identical games minus graphic downgrades.

But that is what the 'core' gaming media/players usually only ask for right? At least the most vocal. To me that's part of the larger issue with gaming.

graphics got good enough a long time ago. and AI has been the same dumb crap for years now, it's not a hardwre problem for any platform, just lack of focus.

Tell that to all the devs whom have been bitching for stronger hardware like Ubisoft, EA, Activision...hell even Sony devs were bitching at Sony to get newer hardware. Of course these had to be western devs. Naughty Dog said Uncharted 4's planning demands were too high for the PS3. UC4 will most likely be a much larger and expansive mission than ever before.

Exactly. That's why this thread is so silly. The OP is pushing a question that isn't really valid. Almost all next gen exclusives are are not just current gen games that look pretty yet based of his rules he only cares about gameplay advances.

True, and FF15 looks amazing but at its core its still current gen. Doesnt mean it cant be one of the greatest games ever.
