I love the his representation of "that guy" playing the GH. I didn't really think he would like that type of game anyway, but it is one of the funnier ones he's done.

As much as I disagree with him on how good brawl is, I will say that pretty much every one of his points are pretty spot on.

"that guy" is exactly as he has described. Once you play through it, you have the advantage over those who don't, when you have the advantage, you win, and once you get that taste of victory, you can only thirst for more.

Yep, I've defended the name "wii" on an internet forum, so that one nailed almost too close to home for comfort, much like seeing a hole in my roof and an unexploded cruiser missile impaling my bed when I come home. It ruined my bed, sure, but how many other people do you know who have their very own cruiser missile?

Sonic and Snake, indeed, needed way too much of the SSE to unlock. If they're in the manual right off the bat, they should at least make a big note in the manual or on the game itself of how those characters are specifically unlocked.

As he stated, he played the game with a bunch of friends who never had any real interest or experience with Smash Bros, and he already doesn't really like fighting games in general. His apparent focus with multiplayer was on the 4 way brawls which can get incredibly confusing and frustrating, and I'm saying that as an experienced player. Honestly, I can see his issues.

Disagree:
He pretty much contradicted himself in his own review. He first says that even if you master the controls perfectly, you can still get schooled by someone button mashing, but then went on to point out that after playing through the single player mode, he became "that guy" which pretty much shows that if you actually practice a bit, there's a direct correlation between mastery and win percentage. This is an obvious case of wanting to have his cake and eat it too.

Brawl is still a pinnacle of the fighting game genre. The simplicity of the attack setup, combined with the damage meter instead of a health meter to allow a variable point of KO, as well as up and down being valid movement choices instead of just left and right, make for incredibly immersive gameplay. Understanding all the nuances of the game takes time, but they are really enjoyable unless you hate fighting games as a whole.


On a personal note, I don't hate fighting games, but I hate aspects of fighting games, such as a set health meter, needing to perform random button combinations in order to achieve a combo and only being able to block instead of also being able to dodge. Same thing is true about FPS; I enjoy FPS, but I hate using a controller or a keyboard setup for it, which is why I enjoy MP3 so much. Mature games I can enjoy, but not blood and guts that have no purpose other than to get the mature rating, which is why I enjoy No More Heroes

I liked SSBB, but I happen to agree with him on that one. I thought he was hilarious as usual, cant wait for next weeks.
