So arguably better or worse. It has DK which is bigger than anything there, but that's all it has. The rest isn't as big as Injustice, Lego City Undercover, Game and Wario, Walking Dead, Monster Hunter and Need for Speed.

Walking Dead was the FPS game, not the episodic one. It was only bigish because of its franchise. Also Need for Speed was a few months late. I think I'd put them as about equal to DK.

Yeah.
WiiU should be down YoY with that line up (In Q1). I don't see DK pushing consoles that much.
impertinence said: I don't typically predict numbers or even trends, but I have said I think we'll see a general contraction in the Video game market. This is because I don't think Nintendo will be able to ignite the market like they need to (this is based purely on percentages as not igniting a mass phenomenon is a lot easier than igniting one) and because I think the number of video game customers will shrink. You (and many others) blame this on tablets and phones. I think that factor is minimal, but I do think that the 'sameness' you've talked about is a double edged sword for MS and Sony. More PC like architectures and games will make the PC itself a more direct competitor and I think as this generation goes on more and more people will do what I would have done today if I was interested in a PS4: Spend the money on upgrading my HTPC instead and get the games through Steam and or piracy. |
This is a strange argument. The only thing PC-like about the new consoles is their system architecture, and that was done in order to make the systems easier to develop for. Even the WiiU uses PowerPC technology for their processor. We don't want another repeat of the PS3's CELL processor from last gen do we? Pretty much everything about the consoles is different. PC games are easily piratable, usually feature modding communities, and primarily sold through digitial means. PCs themeselves are ugradeable which allows them to have state of the art graphics. Consoles are also a much cheaper investment upfront. I see no reason for a vast majority of console gamers to make the switch to PCs.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
So WiiU will get a slight uptick in February and then drop dead again in March. Mario Kart can't get here soon enough. Where in the world is Bayonetta 2 or X? Granted they won't move very many systems but they might bring the hardcore crowd back to Nintendo.

Oh, mediacreate is actually showing 51k for WiiU this week, that's down 20k YOY
pokoko said: Also, I'm still not sure why people use the word Revolution with the Wii. There was no revolution. A revolution would mean that everything is different from that period forward--and it's not. It was a massive blip on the screen but then it went off the other side. Could peripheral-aided motion controlled gaming have taken over if Nintendo stuck with it? I doubt it, but it doesn't really matter, because we'll never know. They went back to a controller and the "revolution" died with a whimper. |
You made a point but that's not the only reason why it's called Revolution. I think a lot of people got their ideas for their motion controls or even virtual reality. The revolution opened a new path in the gaming history. There are millions of new casual gamers (I hate this word but it's true). There are so many Wii owners with no contact to videogames before this small console which changed a lot of things. It changed the way of playing, having fun and thinking. Just because of the Wii I understood that it's all about the fun. I don't have to say that I have the fastest processor or the best graphics because I don't care and with the Wii I realized that. And the motion control were something you have not seen before and it's still used for the Wii U. Because there are still great ideas. This Revolution was so huge that Sony and Microsoft made their own concept but it wasn't the same. It wasn't Revolution.
I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?
I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

Well last year the Wii U also still had launch hype. It wasn't much, but certainly more than it does now. It could be a really bad quarter.
