for gods sake, they are moaning about nintendo reusing their ideas but buy cod super duber hd remake and fifa xyz we just updated the players each year, again and again.

Kinda puts those comparisons using %install base for software into perspective.  I mean here's an install base that doesn't even exist yet beating one that does.  

So, the main problem for 3rd parties ability to sell to the Nintendo audience is that the Nintendo audience is very picky when it comes to quality. They are also unusually intelligent and aren't manipulated by massive marketing budgets.The Playstation audience is the exact opposite, and are easily fooled by hype coming from massive marketing campaigns.

Hmm, yeah I wonder what the excuse will be in the 8th gen when Wii U have 3rd party multiplats bombing compared to others. On the Wii, it was always the devleopers fault, never the demographics lack of interest. People will come up with something, I'm sure, like the creationist gap theory!
