FIrst off, I don't own a gaming PC and I've never played a PC game.  I'm just bullshitting this out of my asshole.

So, we live in a world where a new iPhone comes out every year, better versions of tablets release all of the time, and PC's are currently being upgraded.  Why not consoles?  The way I undertstand it, both a low end PC and a high end PC are both capable of running the same copy of a retail game but the higher end device has superior performance.  In the console gaming world, it would be similar to a game like Perfect Dark on the N64.  The game ran without special features on the N64 and gamers with the Expansion Pak http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expansion_Pak#Expansion_Pak were able to play an enhanced version of the game with more textures and better effects.  Either way, if you bought the game, it worked on your console.

Well, I was wondering.  What if Nintendo released a better version of the Wii U hardware.  It could run the exact same games as the Wii U but those willing to purchase the higher end model of the Wii U would have an experience akin to running the game at "max settings".  All of the content is the same but for, let's say $500, you get a Wii U that has better framerate, more detailed textures, USB 3.0, larger internal HDD, game pad with longer range, etc.?  Would that work?  Would that silence those that think the Wii U is weak when compared to the  Xbox One and PS4?

Discuss.

No, it would destroy Nintendo.

A warm breeze on a Summer's day would destroy Nintendo if you believe what some say.  Why do you feel the way you do?  It wouldn't take away from any current experiences.  Developers would still just make one version of the game.  It would just run better on the Wii U Max or whatever shitty name Nintendo would come up with.  Everybody wins, right?

Maybe. They've dabbled in this area before with the DS and it was their greatest success.

no, they'll never profit on the hardware that way and you know how greedy Nintendo is

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

That's a good example!  They've done something similar with their portables.  Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Color were still basically just an improved versions of the Gameboy, they added lighting with the Advance SP, and of course, the DSi and DS Lite improved on the DS.  The games didn't really improve but the hardware was better.  I think something like this would work for the Wii U.  There's a lot of room on Blu Ray discs and not every game needs to take advantage of the new hardware.  Just consider the current Wii U as a minimum performance to shoot for.

My deepest condolences. Please do yourself a favor and try one. Suggestion: http://store.steampowered.com/app/12900 (Audiosurf, one of the best indie games created up to now; it will run on your PC and there's a demo).

OT: Yes, I hope they re-design the gamepad one day and relaunch the system as Nintendo U.

yes piracy could very much help sell lots of WiiU hardware

Uh you do relaise NIntendo is selling WIi U at a loss.

Also you do realise they can't exactly sell ahrdware at a $200 loss as MIcrososft or a Sony could do. THis is simply because the other companies are invovled in more than just gaming so they cna offset losses in one division.

Finally glad to see another constructive comment from you.

you do know they would profit from the wii U eventually but with what the op said they wouldn't. And no one is forcing you to read my comments so keep your bitching to yourself
