Forums - Microsoft - Project Spark dev remade X-Wing vs TIE Fighter in-game, claims studio

VG247

Project Spark is the free, game creation title from Team Dakota heading to Xbox One. In a new interview, Microsoft Studios manager Michael Saxs Persson has claimed that one of the team re-made X-Wing vs TIE Fighter using the game’s extensive tool-kit.

Speaking with OXM about the possibilities of Project Spark, Persson said, “We often challenge ourselves to reconstruct popular games. One of our guys did X-Wing vs TIE Fighter – every power up was included and the X-Wing was fully functioning. Somebody else did Force Unleashed, just to see if it could be done.”

He added, “I think the fun for me is to see genres come alive that are not doing particularly well, but they should. Like 90s-style RPGs, where they are full of adventure and wonder and you’re just hanging out talking to townspeople.

“One of the engineers, she made, like, this 40-minute epic quest. I can’t remember the last time I saw something like that. Perhaps Final Fantasy back in the ’90s?”

Project Spark was shown off at E3 this year, and it does seem to house a robust and diverse arrangement of tools. Check out our reveal coverage here.

This seems to be one of the most interesting games currently in development. The trailer looked very promising. I'm glad it will also be on Win 8, so I can try it out even if I won't buy an X1 anytime soon.

I hope they release their version of XvsTie some day, or at least show some videos. I hope that - once the game is out - someone decides to remake Grim Fandango.

That game was so awesome. I vaguely remember taking down a Star Destroyer with a squad of X-Wings in training mode (might have been X-Wing Alliance, though) when I was younger.

I still don't get that there isn't a free to play online x wing vs tie fighter game

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Spark looks great, like a 3d version of LBP2.

Can't wait to see if people make new Super Mario 64 and Colony Wars type games from it :D

In 2009 there were rumors about an official remake for X360 which never came true, even though LucasArts employees thought it will happen. LucasArts never understood (or cared about) the enormous popularity of their gaming franchises. They could have easily remade all their brilliant adventure games (but stopped after two entries for no reason), their great space and other flight sims, their Star Wars FPS, but no...

Project Spark to the rescue!
