Forums - Microsoft - GameStop customers can upgrade Xbox 360 games to Xbox One versions for $10

American Xbox One adopters can take advantage of a pretty fair deal at their participating GameStop stores; for a limited time, you'll be able to trade in Xbox 360 versions of certain games and get an upgrade to the corresponding Xbox One edition for less than $10.

Members of GameStop's PowerUp Rewards programs can make use of a limited time $50 guaranteed minimum credit for five standard edition Xbox 360 games when they are traded-in for a new copy of the Xbox One version of the same title.

"This is an amazing opportunity for our PowerUp (PUR) members to enjoy their favorite Xbox 360 game until the Xbox One version becomes available," said senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop, Bob Puzon in a statement.

"This offer gives PUR members the chance to upgrade their current Xbox 360 game for the new Xbox One standard version of that game for $9.99. This is a great example of how GameStop is helping gamers make the transition to the next generation of consoles economical and seamless."

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
  • Madden NFL 25
  • FIFA 14
  • Battlefield 4
  • Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

Buyer beware: there are certain caveats to the deal. Eligible customers must be PowerUp Rewards members when they buy one of the participating Xbox 360 titles within 30 days of the game's initial release, at which time they'll receive a $50 trade-in coupon via email. This game must then be traded-in at any American GameStop store for the standard Xbox One version of the same game. The offer will only be open until Dec. 31, 2013.

You could argue that it's a little pointless to get a game on one platform when you're planning on purchasing it on the next one up anyway, but it seems like a good idea for anyone who can't afford to or isn't able to get a console early, ensuring they don't miss out on any time with titles they're looking forward to playing.

Here's hoping the UK gets a similar kind of deal for those who won't be able to pick up the Xbox One on day one.

Not a bad deal! Get to play the game on existing system then upgrade when the console comes out. Personally i plan on making the majority of my purchases digitally though on next gen consoles.

I will permaban myself if the game releases in 2014.

in reference to KH3 release date

This would be an awesome deal if the same was true with your pre-existing library.

That's pretty class for people who wanna pick up those games while they're saving up the last money to buy an X1 good guy gamestop confirmed.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I have been thinking about getting FIFA 14 for current gen, but with no BC, I'll want a next-gen version within months

(but in the UK and with PS4 not Xbox One, but the thought is right)

That's not bad, but ... uh. Hm. Why not just wait and save yourself $10?

it's €25 here :o

and also available for playstation

You'll get the next gen version for $10 only if you purchase it 30 days from the release.

So if Watch Dogs PS360 PS4/Xbox One release the same day or close to the same day, then why don't you just get the PS4 or Xbox One version to begin with? Where's the sense of buying the last gen version and then buying the next gen version within 30 days.

Battlefield and Call of Duty if you get them day one you might be able to purchase the PS4/Xbox One games 45 days later.

This is just a way to get $10 more dollars from you and still sell the used game at $5 than full retail.
