Forums - Gaming - Hideki Kamiya posits that gamers can focus too much on sales and reviews

He's right but he also needs to understand that the average gamer can't go out and buy a new game just to see if they like it or not. Most of us aren't getting his paycheck. Using sales figures to decide, though, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

^That's true.

I agree with him that trying a game to see its merits or weakness by yourself is the proper way to judge a game, but to do that we would need to try them without buying them. That's where demos come in place, but unfortunately games with a demo are becoming a rarity these days.

You do.

Look at how many games my sig says I've played in this gen alone, that doesn't include games without trophies or other platforms, or previous gens.  So I am the most experienced authority on quality.

256 games? wtf

You must be living comfortably, I can only afford at most 2 games a month.

Since I don't have a WiiU, I will focus on sales (especially for Bayonetta 2)

for peeps on the go and have to make a choice of what new game to purchase, yep im watching reviews from a couple of sites some game play videos and i like it i will save and buy it. if he wants me to experience it he can send me a free game or stfu.

I agree with him.
Watch footage.
Like it? Buy it. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

I try to mostly buy blindly these days, so I'm surprised.

Well yeah, one of my wishes for next gen is for number base reviews to disappear.

Sly Cooper 4 was given mix reviews and the sales were bad but I still love the hell out of that game.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I pay attention to reviews but not the scores. I just want to know what I'm getting into and it's not like ads will give me an objective opinion.

Sales on the other hand, I couldn't give a shit about. This should never be a factor when buying a game. If sales are abysmal and it's an online centric game, then I can understand.
