Forums - Nintendo - Mr. Iwata comment on the idea of going multi-platform.

http://www.explosion.com/41460/iwata-nintendo-going-multi-platform-would-be-a-short-term-fix/

“If I was to take responsibility for the company for just the next one or two years, and if I was not concerned about the long-term future of Nintendo at all, it might make sense for us to provide our important franchises for other platforms, and then we might be able to gain some short-term profit.

“However, I’m really responsible for the long-term future of Nintendo as well, so I would never think about providing our precious resources for other platforms at all.”

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

True. Just keep Mario, Mario Kart and Smash exclusive and Nintendo will last forever

I think it makes sense, just look at Sega and Atari. but Nintendo needs get it together with the Wii U

that's what i like about Nintendo and Iwata. they like to think about the long-term, not the short-term, that's how Nintendo survived with a lot of money in their bank even after 124 years.

I feel like this is old news, or very similar to an older interview on the matter, cause I'm getting major déjà vu.

OBJECTION!

NINTENDO SHALL NEVER GO 3RD PARTY

I wish Iwata would stop wasting his time answering stupid questions.

Yeah, which is why I always have lower opinions of people who bring up the idea of Nintendo going multiplatform. IT HAS NEVER WORKED FOR ANY MAJOR CONSOLE HARDWARE MANUFACTURER IN THE PAST, why on Earth would anyone with knowledge of the industry think it would 'save' or help Nintendo?

People thinking the Nintendo IPs would still sell gangbusters if spread out on multiple platforms or Nintendo would be able to keep the quality while working on someone else's hardware really just show case how uninformed they are when it comes to Nintendo's success or how the current industry works. Even if the Wii U is doomed, Nintendo still has enough push from the 3DS and cash from their most recent successes (Wii and DS) that they could still release new hardware by 2015-16 that (Assuming like always tech costs decrease for certain chipsets and technology) is closer if not a match for PS4 and Xbox One.

I know gamers who are DEEPLY of the opinion that Nintendo needs to go bankrupt. They seem to gloss over the fact that by making low-tech consoles at low price points, Nintendo has likely kept console prices VERY low.

Think about it: without the Wii, the major competition Microsoft and Sony would have faced in gen 7 would have been from PCs. Hello $1000 console come gen 8. Such a high price only looks ridiculous because Nintendo is making hardware for a third that price, but without that competition from below, prices would surge.

Do you really want to give up that market dynamic? I sure don't.

If it had to happen, I think Nintendo could do well as a peripheral manufacturer for Sony. Or, to be more correct, Sony designs the internal specs of the system, Nintendo designs the controllers and handhelds that their software would be played with on a Sony console.

But I'd still hate to see Nintendo leave the hardware business. I do not see Nintendo leaving without Microsoft and Sony drastically increasing prices.

I rather think we've had a thread about this already.
