Forums - Gaming Discussion - If you want Hiroyuki Ito as director of FFXVI, please tell Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix NA/EU!

Firstly, some info on who the two people in the topic title actually are:

  • Phil Rogers is the President and CEO of Square Enix Europe and Square Enix America. He's currently in Tokyo this week and spending time at the Square Enix Japan HQ for meetings with the other executives. He's asking American and European fans for feedback they would like him to relay over to the Square Enix Japan management.
  • Hiroyuki Ito is the Director of Final Fantasy VI, IX, and XII. He is also the Game Designer of Final Fantasy V and Tactics. He created many gameplay systems used in the FF series. However, he has not worked on any FF games since FFXII International, which released in 2007. Many fans would like him to direct FFXVI. You can find more info on Hiroyuki Ito here.

----------

OK, with that out of the way, I can now explain the situation. Phil Rogers has been reading and making notes of fan replies to his recent blog post here.

I highly advise every FF fan to reply in the comment section of his blog post and voice that they really want Hiroyuki Ito as director of FFXVI. Go to the blog post above and comment that you want Hiroyuki Ito as director of FFXVI. Please spread the word, as most FF don't want Kitase/Toriyama helming FFXVI after they're done with the FFXIII trilogy.

Phil Rogers has also provided his direct e-mail. However, please make sure that you're polite if you e-mail him directly.

So if Ito isn't working on XVI, what has he been working on?

The most recent info about Hiroyuki Ito was provided by Shinji Hashimoto (Final Fantasy Brand Director) at a Japan Expo interview in July 2013. Full quote and source:

----------------------------------------

RPG Site: I can see Nomura-san's crew need the room back for their next interview, so I'm going to wrap up by betraying my inner fan and ask a more specific talent question - Hiroyuki Ito, the creator of ATB, the director of FF9 - my favourite, which of course you produced - and FF12... Is he still at the company - and is he working on anything that we already know about?

Hashimoto: [laughs] You're a very unique journalist, asking about Ito-san! Yeah. He's still at Square Enix. He's been planning and doing some proposals for a new project at the moment, so... Really, he's the kind of guy that wants to challenge new things all the time, so, yeah. At the moment, he's doing... [laughs] He's putting some ideas together.

RPG Site: I'm very interested to see what he does next. For RPG gameplay systems I really do feel he's one of the best there is; one of your strongest assets.

Hashimoto: Like you say, he's very talented and very involved. He's very, very in-depth... he likes the depth of the gameplay systems side of things. He really loves to go really deep on mechanics and things, and that takes time. I'm very excited to see his ideas soon!

Also, the journalist that conducted the interview with Shinji Hashimoto provided details on what Hashimoto's body language was like when answering the questions about Hiroyuki Ito:

----------------------------------------

RE Body language to Ito, he just seemed genuinely surprised I was asking, really. We chatted for a little while after the recorder went off about why I as a player feel Ito has something special. I was also telling him about how Sakaguchi said he believed Ito was 'the man' for FF in that BAFTA talk he did last year, to which Hashimoto chuckled and said that the two of them have a great mutual respect.

I think an english copy of Final Fantasy Type 0 needs to be made before Final Fantasy 16 hits production...

I would rather see him work on FFT2.

Galvanizer, How many times do you plan to make this thread!? Ito most likely is already doing a FF game. SE is not going to let us choose their production staff.

I do agree with above 2 post. It is a travesty we never got Type 0

If we voice our opinion loud enough, there's a chance we may at least get them heard and taken into consideration when FFXVI finally gets a director selected.

What are talking about? FF16 is already in development. The Agni's prophecy is a beta Final Fantasy. I assure you all the lead production staff has already been chosen. Its like it goes through one ear and right out the other. Ito is already on Final Fantasy 16

I sent him an email the other day asking about Final Fantasy type 0
