Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo still selling Wii U at a loss

Reggie said that they need to sell only ONE game to make profit

I'm pretty sure that was shot down afterward. I'm pretty sure It's not true.

OT: Not surprising. And I guess that means no price cut. More rough times if these games do nothing and Nintendo can't manage to work out a better marketing campaign for the Wii U.

Even if they are making a profit its not big which leads me to believe they wont cut the price especially knowing that nintendo never even likes to lose money on hardware

I was asking people who were saying 2013 lol! I agree that bundles, ditching the basic n such are the way to go though!

Only thing is I doubt they'll replace Nintendo Land if only because it'd make people think they're giving up on the gamepad.

Lol whoops! I can't read.

I don't think they'll be giving up on the gamepad without Nintendo Land, they would always have a game that has unique Gamepad functionality in it (something like Wii Sports U).

You suggested replacing Nintendo Land with games like 3D World & Tropical Freeze, and those games don't really use the gamepad for anything. Heck they can be played completely without it. It just doesn't seem right to bundle a game that doesn't take advantage of the console's main feature, especially when said feature takes $100 or so to make.

I said they could, not that they should. Plus, some gamers do want a Wii U but aren't really fond of Nintendo Land, and a bundle wtih a game like those could stir sales quite a bit!

I will wait for more credible info.

They can still bundle games without removing Nintendo Land. They've done it in the past with the Wii, and they've recently done it with Zombi U if I recall correctly.

Gaming journalist hating on Nintendo again, Reggie said they only needed to sell one software to turn a profit on the wii U and they sold 8,364,467 games so far so they made money on 8,364,466 games. keep hating, haters

They retracted that statement very shortly after he said that.

Seriously though I'm going to call some level of BS on this. NOA/NOE reps pretty much never know what the hell they're talking about.

The Japanese yen has depreciated massively since last November, something to the tune of a $70 savings per console for Nintendo for Wii Us sold in North America as of today.

Awesome gif.

The yen will help, but on the other hand the Wii U hasn't shipped enough to get good scale going, inventory backups are going to be gobbling up cash, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo needed to compensate some retailers for the disappointment.

That was proven to be false.

Not only is that a lie but it doesnt change the fact the WiiU is selling at a loss, its not a big deal anyway It's not like they are the first company to do it.
