Forums - Nintendo - Why WiiU is making a (small) profit for Nintendo

I recall before the WiiU got released Nintendo mentioned that if they sell 2 games or more per console they will be making a profit.

According to this http://www.vgchartz.com/charts/weekly.php?reg=date=41476 then

WiiU is currently has a 2.48 games/console tie ratio.

A bit more: eShop.

And in their financial report they said they are losing money with the Wii U. They hardly made any money at all despite 3DS hardware and software selling well and Abenomics.

They must have got it wrong then in the beginning?

2 or more games so long as they hit forecasted sales numbers which they didn't.

Put it this way. If they only sold 10 units and 25 games, would your post add up? Of course not. So there must be a line drawn, and if that was their prediction it would be dependant upon projected unit sales. Which it isn't hitting.

They factored in R&D costs in this quarter's report AFAIK, maybe that's a reason.

Maybe they meant with every console manufactured. Possible to have over 5m consoles manufactured and that is around 1.63 games per console. Just my thoughts on that matter.

... if the WiiU is sold for the official price tag.

But you can buy the Wii U for over 100 $/€ lower than the offical price.

was it really 2 to be profitable ?

the first thing I heard that selling 1 game was enough, but soon after reggie said he was wrong and they need more than 1 game to be profitable, but didn't say how many.
It could be 2, it could be 3 or even more ?

But yeah according to the financials they aren't making money yet if I read correctly. But hopefully soon.

I think the price cuts aren't official ?
so the loses would hit the retailer and not nintendo ?

also I think its only in europe where the wiiu is sold 100-150€ below official price.
its still the official price for the us ?
