Forums - Gaming - Why the X1 upgrade is good for PS gamers

So as we've seen this gen multiplatform games on the 360 and the PS3 tend to be exactly the same, therefore in terms of multiplats on the X1 and PS4 the consoles are only as strong as the weakest link.  Developers are probably not gonna put in the extra development time to fully harness the more powerful console and just make it run the exact same on both, so with the X1 getting a upgrade that means better multiplatform games on the PS4.  Now I will admit it is a pretty small upgrade, but every little bit matters.  So what do you guys think?

That is true, but I don't get why developers just try to put effort in each individual version to maximize the game on the respective console.

The X1 did not get an upgrade.

It's the same GPU, It was just overclocked.

Very simplistic way of looking at it but yes.

Main problem is that this upgrade is very minor. If it adds one or two fps to the xbone version, it'll add maybe .1 fps to the ps4 version.

I did say in the OP that the upgrade was small.

I know. Small however is a relative term. It's micro for the PS4 ;)

I have yet to be convinced that the massive hardware differences between the Wii U and either the PS4 or X1 will amount to a hill of beans.

I have things on my mind like:

X1: I have friends getting the system I could borrow games from. There'll also be the early life exclusives. Unfortunately it's expensive and useless without Gold.

PS4: I have remote play and you don't have time for a console, and it'll also have the late life exclusives. You can live without PS+, but it's a really good idea.

Wii U: I can actually afford one...kinda. Just about everything of note will be exclusive. It has a gamepad, youtube and web browsing apps everybody loves, and oh, also free internet connectivity.

Power is just not relevant to me. Especially in microscopic doses.

wait I've just read about this now? they've turned up the heat on their GPU before launch? is this really a good idea? I mean Overclocking stock parts might not have immediate negative impacts on the consoles but overclocking will always lower the life expectancy of hardware. I would rather have a machine that was a tiny bit slower but was going to last forever than have 2fps more but have the potential to cook its own brain like the 360 was famous for doing.

Worst thing is the reason they're overclocking the GPU their using rather than just going for a higher end model to begin with is all down to it having to budget from it's core gaming hardware for the mandatory set of 1080p, IR, motion tracking, voice recognition laden cameras which come with each machine. I like Kinect the way it is now, you can opt in for it, but not if it's coming at the possible cost of system stability to keep up with its competition.
