Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario RPG Developer not Interested in Sequel

Yoshihiko Maekawa, former Super Mario RPG developer and current AlphaDream employee has stated that he is not interested in a sequel to the famed Nintendo & Square Enix collaboration.
“Actually, I don’t feel like I want to return to that world and use those characters in another game. I feel like I was able to accomplish what I wanted to with that world and those characters and the gameplay ideas that came out of those, and now I mostly feel like I want to make something different.”

did you want to see a sequel?

it's like they don't want my money!

but seriously, I love the Mario and Luigi Series Alpha Dream makes, but for crying out loud, make a sequel to this damn masterpiece!

I never understood why people want a sequel to this game. I think Paper Mario is so much better.

Because people want to play sequels to great games?

The original title for Paper Mario was Super Mario RPG 2.

You have to deal with the new replacing the old. It's the Nintendo way. Galaxy replaces open world. Other M replaces Prime. Broken up into levels Paper Mario replaces continuous world Paper Mario.

That's a shame. That's actually one of my most favorite Mario games. Probably #2, right after Mario 3. Hopefully, someone will bring a true sequel to this masterpiece.

I don't think Other M replaced Prime, we will probably see Prime 4 and never see Other M 2.

That's sad, but after all these years I wasn't expecting a sequel anyway. This game is still one of my all time favorites.

Good riddance, I say. The game had too many traits of Squaresoft RPGs. Minigames that sucked hard and points of no return.

Points of no return? Enlighten me.

At some point in the final castle you won't be able to get out anymore. Yes, I should have used singular.

Oh... I did some research and it turns out you were right. Worst part is, if you are too weak for that boss and you save, you're screwed. :-O

You can exit later on though.
