I'm starting to think you're right. Seems like the name needed to do more to distinguish it as being a HD upgrade. Wii HD even. Hell Wii 2...

But its a accessory to the Wii....right? Ask any non-gamer and they will confirm what I said :P
How the hell did they screw that up? I'm sure their marketing teams have tons of Nintendo provided images for use in these circumstances. Some idiot must of pieced that together and is just a clueless son-of-a-bitch.
Pretty fun though. lol
I understand that Nintendo is to blame overall, but come on people, this particular case is one major screwup from Target. This is going to confuse the crap out of people.

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9
Maybe Nintendo should start offering a trade in program. 50 dollars of a Wii U system when you bring in your current Wii core.
Then offload those Wii's at cost as refurbs.

It makes sense tho, brand recognition is huge for many products, its why Sony continues to use the Playstation name and Apple puts I in frontbof everything. Keeping the Wii name made sense since it sold 100 million.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
Though I woulda preferred Wii Too, the current name is fine imo! It's not much different from Playstation 2 and what have you. It just needs games to distinguish it as new console!
Nintendo really should have come up with a new name. Even Wii 2 would have been better from a marketing perspective.
