Forums - Gaming - The Realm of AAA Games ‘Not Fine,’ Says Eternal Darkness Director Denis Dyack

Hmmm.. I see what he is saying.. and I agree.. however he is also missing the part of the 90's and early to mid 2000's where Hollywood started making smaller budget movies in order to make a profit.. though I agree.. a lot of companies need smaller teams to work on games to save money.. and not put so much of a budget in their games.. because really.. step one to the crash has already happened.. years ago.. 1. Bigger Studios buying up smaller Studios with famous games.. the second step has happened already too.. 2. Spin Offs, Sequels, Prequels, and specific franchises being made.. the third step I believe is about to happen.. and this is where the whole thing sinks.. 3. Games go up to a price very few can actually afford.. and the people complain.. and wait for them to go down.. if they don't just get fed up and refuse to buy them at all...

The only thing I see saving the market from the crash.. is the possibility that digital actually comes out and does what they said it was supposed to do.. (That would be having games cheaper upon launch since it does not cost as much as a physical copy to make) Which I don't see it doing.. especially if they go all digital... in the end though it's possible that Indies and others step up to save the industry as well... but it will be a hard go..

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Errrrr... why are you lumping Nintendo in with this when Dyack is talking about huge budgets?  Nintendo typically has fairly small teams and reasonable budgets.  Zelda is the only franchise with a huge budget, and even that's small potatoes compared to games like Call of Duty and Skyrim.  Nintendo really doesn't adhere to the AAA business model.

Because of sequels and lack of new IPs, but that could be my personal opinion. As much I'm excited for the next Zelda, I wish they'll just end the series and move on. :/

in other words, because of nothing. how exactly being a sequel to an existing franchise hinders a game value?
